Tile/Slate roof cleaning...
« on: January 20, 2012, 07:08:28 pm »
Anyone ever done this?

I was cleaning all the moss etc off from my slate roof on Wednesday afternoon, as it was peeing tit down so couldnt clean any windows. All I used was my pressure washer and done a pretty good job, which resulted in a neighbour asking me to do theirs sometime aswell.
I agreed to do it on a rainy day, but dunno what to charge? Prob just see how long it takes and charge about £30 per hour?

Shoud one be using a pre spray first to make life easier and quicker?

James

Google it, there are lots of specialist companies in this market. Used to sell for one years ago. They charge mega money but beware of all the health and safety rules, but saying that I once went to look at a job and they were just using roof crawlers....

They charged per square metre but cant remember what figure, think it was over 20 a metre though...

Maybe I should reconsider the £30 an hour pricing structure then  :)

I would price it fairly but be aware that people pay good money, if you going to spend 6 hours then still going to be 180 but depends on size....

yeah that would be great. crap prices so all the firms that are working in that trade can have a hard time explaining to customers why they charge the going rate. then we can all meet up on here and moan about the summer squad cleaning houses for 3 quid!!

Ironic really.  oh it was a joke? now i see why the summer squad get their prices from. ;)

Pete that was the point I was going to make with James.

James for costing in my experience, it all depends on how you carry out the cleaning and the quality of the clean / service offered. In general if they are slate tiles we will not clean due to their make up ie extremely thin / fragile.  A previous post states around £20 sm that is a std coat manu guide price but would include treatment plus application of good quality coating, not just cleaning.

If you work as a 2 man team min one ground one roof, use professional equip (I know some companies which use Karcher washers and even take them up on to the roof!) work safety / ropes etc you can charge higher rates and beat the gypsies  ;D
providing a quality service - really depends how far you go for example our vac alone cost over £1600 which does not include poles.

no we would not prespray - quality wash will achieve desired results  ;D

Yeah thats all I done was take my karcher pressure washer up there, no harness etc as it was only slightly pitched, kitchen roof. (Slates)

Decided not to advertise this as one of my services, but if I get asked I will do as a Saturday job.
