what would you quote?
« on: January 20, 2012, 05:51:47 pm »
This is a tough one but any feedback is appreciated. I was asked to quote a very large garden centre today. it's like an aircraft hanger only not as pretty!
There are four main areas to it and I broke it down as follows
Area 1 Roof panels, 256 approx size 6ft x 2ft. One glass window wall 20 minutes to clean
Area 2 Roof panels, 88 approx size 6ft x 2ft. One glass window wall 20 mins to clean.
Area 3 Roof panels, 160 6ft x 2ft. 128 4ft x 2 ft. Several glass walls around 2-3 hours, tricky access.
Area 4 Roof panels, 44 6ft x 2 ft plus glass walls which would take around one hour.

Access is generally tricky, they are open 7 days a week. The roof panels are the polycarbonate type things you see on conservatory roofs, hasn't been cleaned in years but they are just dirty, not green.

Would you clean this wfp or try and power wash on a low setting after spraying with virosol type product? If WFP, It would be very hard to get any pressure on a large number of the panels because they are so far away from where you can safely stand.

As i said, it's not your every day quote   :) :) and any ideas are appreciated.

Cheers for that, what method would you use? I do have some photos but they are useless really as you cant get any outside pics due to lack of outside space and the height of the roofs, just ones from inside to remind me of the layout but all the pics look the same.

Hi Tom,

you should charge what you feel you are worth.

Why dont you offer to clean a couple of panes (using the methods your thinking about) and explain to the customer both methods work but due to the condition, access etc - you would like to try both methods to get the best possible results.

Only a suggestion

Thanks Archer, yes I was going to clean a couple of panes today but it was throwing it down big time and I was worried about my hair  ;) I will probably nip back prior to providing the quote to make sure I am not booking myself a nightmare.

Like I say - not confident - never had any work like this so just plucking a figure out the air really without actually seeing it - all my work bar a few shop fronts is domestic
Any reasons as to your thinking for £1200/£1800 ??
