Don't take your busket, because they might think you are just after ore work while you are in the area and you are going to do it straightaway.

Instead dress smart/casual with a logo'd top, smile and don't stand too close to them on the doorstep, always look them in the eyes, especially when you are answering their questions or when you are giving them the price, it show you are being truthful, people who don't look you in the eye, or mumble are not recieved quite well.

also have plenty of business cards witha landline number as well as a mobile, its shows that you are traceable, mobile numbers only, can be taken as a "rogue trader" even though you are not one.

Remember that the first impression you give is the most important one.

Dont wander about with tools swinging from your belt. Go in uniform, be polite, even when therr miserable with you.

Hoping for a good day on friday, and saturday. Want at least 50quids worth. im targetting 100 a week, but im well up from last week with 184, so I would settle for 50.. But 100 would be nice ;D

look average no suits but smart speak well etc. simply offer your services and leave a price to as many as you can,

now most important things are.

1) Do not spend more then 5 mins with a customer
If you get into an area where you are getting in houses as in come and see my conservatory and cust chatting for ages that's a good sign but dont waste time be in and out as fast as you can do talk a bit to but know when to leave, because if you talk for 30 mins that could cost you a lead or 2.
and you dont know the strength of the customer untill its been cleaned a 2nd time
so you could be wasting time having a lovley chat with your new keen customer that wants only a one off ,explain how you operate first, then talk a bit how this winter is lovely compared to last as you take his details down or something.

2)Walk fast
3)knock on as many doors as you can in some relaxed areas you can knock on 2-3 doors at a time
4)just remember its all a numbers game what you say does help but the more people you speak to the more results you will have,
5)try not to look as if you are screaming for work if someone isnt sure they want your service, leave the quote and ask if they would like you to call them back in a week or so, so then they can think
6)Dont talk them into anything it will backfire!

Thought I would chip in here as well :)

I usually canvass between 10.00 a:m and 4 p:m coz thats when the ladies are home and in my experience they usually make the descisions when it comes to house looking nice.Tired blokes after a few hours on the motorway in the evenings don't usually wanna see you

Be smart casual(like the fosters ad!!) a logo'd top, clean shaven with a bit of nice smelly, clean shoes and trousers and above all be honest about what you do
The good weather is really helping at the moment ,so its good to be pro-active at this time
Always leave a card with a landline number even if they say they have a cleaner(they might not have shown up over the last few months)
If they have to speak to hubby, see if you can get a telephone and call them in a couple of days-shows your serious and it works more often than not
We have picked up 20 new cleans in the last 4 days doorstepping and are aiming for another 10 today!! ;)

Good luck
Roy :) :)

This subject always gets me buzzing, but unfortunetly I'm a nightmare when it comes to canvassing. I go out with great intensions and knock on a few then just start posting flyers...... Arrrgh I get so angry with myself and then don't go at all..  Sorry for the rant...

Some of them will look you in the eye and tell you they already have a window cleaner when the windows are obviously minging. So they don't all tell the truth.  ;)
Although if their gonna bulls*** you on the doorstep they won't be the kind of customers you want anyway.
Can be quite amusing sometimes, women are the worst for doing it  :P
