  I have no problems with the extras on the test, what I want is for them to standardise the levels when things are deemed worn out and in need of replacement.

  Last year my car failed on overly corroded brake lines and the handbrake not being strong enough on one wheel.

  While sorting out the handbrake I looked at the brake libes, which were dirty rather than corroded, I gave them a quick clean and a grease, they then passed 24 hours after they had failed.

  The garage in question swore I had replaced them, lying cheating bunch of numptyas!

if yours is a dispatch or similar derivative, i was told its the connection under the drivers seat. take it apart and clean the connections if this stops the light coming on cut it out and solder the wires together...

Its a very common Citroen fault

Fail. There is a sequence that the warning lights go out once the ignition is turned on. If there is no light on or doesn't go off then they will assume a fault and fail the car.

Some electronic wiz come up with a circuit that automatically switched the light off at the approporiate time on his ABS only to find they still failed the car as the ABS wasn't working and showed up on the brake test.
There is a small group of diesel owners who have removed their catylitic convertors and replaced them with a straight through pipe. This was never a failure as emmisions weren't checked. Now if its not there when it should be, they will fail it.

My airbag light has been on since a month after I bought the van in 2005.  It went out for a few weeks quite a while ago but came on again.  It's been on ever since.

quite tight those regulations......good to see they're tightening up, hope they sort all these blinding misaligned headlights too!

most decent MOT garages will look over the vehicle and if there are know obvious problems they will pass it, i dont think i've had a correct emmisions test for a long time. Then mine doesn't beltch out any black smoke and has parts changed as and when needed...

my estate van has passed its retest today failed omissions first time.
i would strongly advise anyone taking the mot to use council garages (the ones that test taxis)
i foned up last wednesday to book me in friday (they open at 7am !- 5pm)
retest was in and out on day i foned in half an hour
my mechanic said theres no way the van will pass, your brake disc`s and pads need replacing...they passed.
 it failed on my exhaust which was about to fall apart and the council man advised welding rather than replacement £50 instead of £250+

to take your car to a "test and repair center" is asking for trouble, its a crazy system here in the uk. americans cant believe it...it does employ 20,000 people so its not going anywhere at the moment.

And Peugeot of course - this trick cures the airbag warning fault on my Pug 406 - large connector under the passenger seat tho'.
