Just had a roof rack fitted to van, and going to invest in some ladders for access on some jobs, also back up if wfp eithers runs out of water, or if pump packes up i can finish a job trad if need be, but mainly want ladders fpr access for some jobs, got a new job which will require access to back upper windows, my questin is, do i need a pro pair or will a domestic pair do me as not using them all the time and what height would you recomend? Im thinking just a 2 section pair. any advice?

You can get a set of class 2 for not much money, but domestic set would suffice.

thats what i was thinking, but thought i better get some advice from you lads to see what you wld do if you was me, got me roof rack for a kayak but thought might as well get ladders on as well, plus need for one job coming up otherwise the job will be very awkward.

i no a few trad lads who use domestic ladders all the time so will be sound for you,not sure what the difference is anyway

Difference is weight that ladders will take. Domestic will 'suffice' but would your insurance pay out in the event of an accident whilst using equipment that's not rated for purpose.

Funnily enough, there's a whole section given to such a discussion during your NVQ level2 in cleaning and support services 
 
For what difference is in price. Buy the class 2 (no longer called class 2 but EN131), also taught during NVQ level 2 in cleaning and support services.

I use a collapsible set of ladders, just for going over flat roofs, etc. don't feels as secure as 'proper' ladders, but saves having roof racks on for off job here and there.

3.5 metre trade ladders(2 section)is what you need. IMO domestic ladders are too light and flimsy even if there only used a few times a week.

i have a set of these plus an 8ft single pointer which is great for giving me extra height to open a bolted gate.

the trade ladders i split to climb over a gate without actually standing on the gate and some flat roofs and backs of houses with no side access.

I have these very ladders. You'll not be able to use them as combi for gutters tho, as section to right keeps you away from the house. Far better off with standoff just under gutter - if going to do by hand.
