tds numbers going up.......
« on: December 11, 2011, 03:48:02 pm »
Im running two 20" pre fillters then a 40.40 then my resin.
Im filling a 500lt tank & im now on my 4th fill. When i started 3weeks ago it was at 0.00, now im on my 4th fill its running out at 0.02, is this ok? Only i thought it would stay at 0.00 for a bit longer than this  ???
What do you think? & what should i do to get it back to 0.00???
many thanks

What size resin bottle are you using ?

sometimes the water creates a flow path in the resin bottle and stops the resin removing all the solids
give the vessle a good shake and see if you can pack a little more resin in it

Don't worry mate, you're not alone  ;D  I take his point, if the water has created a pathway through the resin then there is less chance the resin will take out those final nasties.

I'll take a guess and assume you have a similar system to mine, with a small resin container clipped to the system rather than a great big bottle standing next to it all.

When I read this thread earlier I started to think about my own resin and how small the container is, and how often I'm going to be re filling it  ;D

What system did you buy?  Where from? post a link if you can.

as per VSP - if you have a small clear vessle that takes about a litre of resin - it really wont be lasting long
if you have a large blue bottle then you may have a more serious problem.

we all had to start somewhere and learn ! - asking a question and getting an answer is by far a better option than
staying ignorant

i dont think the people i got it from have got a link for it yet mate  :-\ . As it was the 1st time they have done the system like this. But i have got one of the blue resin bottles, just not sure on its size  :-[ But it was Craig from PolarBrite that sorted it all for me. Top bloke Craig is, im sure he will get me sorted out tomorrow. Juat hate & worry when your not sure what going on with something. You know what i mean mate? ;)

Id guess mate that if its a new resin vessel, its either not full enough of resin or the original quality of resin is poor.
if you can, take the top off and have a look how full it is.
ive got an 11ltr vessel (about 2ft high)
have a look on youtube on how to fill one chap it might help :)

As Mark said, I'd turn the lot off then have a look in there, you might even see the path the water has been taking.  Or just give it a good shake of sorts and a gentle tap on the floor to see if the Resin will settle back into place and fill any flow path that might have been created.

I guess I'll be buying some resin myself soon and possibly upgrading my tiny little vessel as I can't see it lasting very long.

yes it is a new system Mark, im not sure what resin is in it  ??? will have to ask the people ibought it from tomorrow. thanks tho m8  ;)

Hi, I run the same system, the first time you used it, did you flush the system first, you should have flushed your system for around 2 hours before filling your tank for the first time, this cleans out any impuritys in your system, then every time you fill your tank you should firstly disconnect the hose from the DI, the one coming from your 40/40 to your DI and let this run down the drain for about 5 minutes, then reconnect and start filling your tank, also once a week remove DI and shake up, top up if necessary and reconnect, all this will make sure you get the best from your system, you could also add a booster pump, this will fill your tank faster and is better for the RO, mine is filling at around 200 ltrs per hour, in the summer this will increase, hope this helps you out.

Brian.

No problem Purer Clean, this is my first van mount system as well, I was running a trailer system before, so I'm only passing on the knowledge that I have picked up over time, happy to help.

2nd comments about flushing regularly , I always flush my system and have a tap on the pipe going into DI so I dont have to disconnect DI pipe every time ,I wait till TDS is down to 6 0r 7 then close tap and allow to go through resin . I have recently started using rainwater and find the flushing takes less time to get down to 7 or 8 ,rainwater comming in at 35 ish from storage tank. I have just fitted a booster pump between pre- filters and membranes and pure water out put has increased a fair bit. 25l container without booster pump took 110 mins ,with booster pump its down to 70 mins .The tds stays lower in my opinion as well when using booster pump.
I do often think of ladder days when I came home ,through ladders round back of house ,scrims in washer and that was it - now its a lot more messing when I get home but Im still not going back to Trad except for a few bungalows .I think my resin will last longer with using rainwater as our tap water comes in at 150-200 tds,
