05th July 2011

Dear Customer

Due to operating cost increases such as Insurance and VAT i have been forced to conduct a price review across the rounds.

It has been decided that as of your next clean which is scheduled for Wednesday 06th July and Thursday 07th of July 2011 a new pricing structure will be implimented.

The cost of your service will rise by 50p for fronts only and by £1 for front and back. If your property has a conservatory the price will rise by £2.

I wish to take this opportunity to thank you for your custom and understanding. The price increases are neccessary for us to continue to provide the high standards of service you have received over the last 12 months.

If you have any questions or quieries please get in touch and i will answer them to the best of my knowledge.

Very Best Regards

Daniel Guest
Proprietor

Thats my last price increase letter but on a letterhead paper
My letters that ill be posting from boxing day will see my price rises averaging £2-£3 with the frequencies changing from 2 weekly to 4 weekly and my new leaflets will be ready to get me a new target of 80 customers by march

Good luck

Last few weeks and currently, i put on my "windows cleaned today" slip an asterisk scribbled in pen followed   by "price increase for 2012 to ...."

The decision is now the customers,i`ve made mine .A justification will be provided if they ask for one but thats likely to get them dumped.

I remain convinced that  there is not a better way.

UNBELIVEABLE  there is a recession at the moment, people cant afford to heat their homes or buy food for
the family and you lot want to charge extra to clean the windows, if you need more money then work an extra hour a day after all you are selfemployed not like some who only have a pension or have a set paypack and cant work extra
hours to meet your price increase, i havnt put my prices up in the last 2 years and i dont intend to do it next year either.
food, heating, petrol are more important than clean windows.
I started out with nothing......I still have most of it.

On that basis you would rather be bankrupt and unemployed than proving a service to people who need and can afford it. Anyone who has to choose between eating and kepping warm, the last thing they should be worrying about is clean windows. We do quite a few pensioners at a loss; they dont want their windows cleaned, just some one to talk to once a month. But everyone else must pay the going rate. Why should you put yourself at a disadvantage to give someone a service that they can pay the full rate for. It says "Window Cleaner" On your van Not Bloody oxfam

Dear Customer, after doing some research on a window cleaning forum it seems my prices are way too low,as of the next clean I will require to put my prices up by 200% so I can make as much money as all the Billy big times that frequent the said forum, may I take this opportunity to thank you for your custom and I look forward to extorting as much money out of you as I can.

I can see both sides to this.
Yes we should increase, after all the costs of running and maintaining our equipment and vehicles are rising at a ridiculous rate,so we need to raise the prices otherwise as someone said,we end up taking a paycut on the year earnings.
That said, people will soon get sick of everything going up and just balls the WC off if the increase is too much/too often.

Thanks for the two examples.
I think we beat ourselves up on price increases. I know I have. I will do it in Jan, no the Christmas bills come in.
Ok the spring then, now the phone rings a little more and prices never seem to get looked at again. The time drifts and its now 4 years since most of mine have had an increase.
This is not good for business.
We are not in recession as vision tech says. Yes, with inflation our money buys less.
I have looked at my customers recently and they mostly live the same as they were 5 years ago. The second car is kept up to date and holidays are still being taken. It gives people something other than the weather to talk about because its all we see and hear about in the papers and tv.
If things get really bad in future we will all lose work regardless of whether it was put up this year or last.
Finally, I think we are far more valued by our customers than I think we realize and I'm hoping they will expect me to increase their prices a little.
I've just got to find some balls
