First post for me so be gentle please ! Wondered what folk think to my system?
Just set up rainwater harvesting system with 1000l storage tank in back garden. I pump to a 100l water butt in garage .The rainwater round here -Leeds - is around 35 tds . I pump from butt in garage through RO with RO waste going back into water butt .The waste comes out at 35 i.e same as it went in. The product water is 0 -1 tds .
The water from the garage butt is pumped to a high pressure pump which is between pre-filters and membranes , takes 50 mins to fill 25 litres of pure water .
I just leave the waste going back into water butt but obviously have to top up from main tank when it gets low.I probably have explained this in a crap way so I hope you see what I mean .I have virtually no waste because the 35 tds rainwater keeps going round and round , my thinking is that when I used tap water comming in for us at 168 ish and all RO waste going down drain and higher water bills . Seems to work well for me with satisfaction of saving on water bills and I hate seeing RO waste going down drain so makes me feel good.As the TDS for rainwater is so much less than our tap water - about 5 times less -then my RO membranes should last just as long if not longer .Anyone any thoughts ?
