I was looking forward to Vince giving a better explanation for this...........
I never liked trying to drag hoses out all the time . I take the pole and reel to the farthest point (I have nice light microbore hose) and run the hose back to the van and plug it in. I find that easier and quicker than trying to drag out a hose from the van.

I couldn't make head nor tail of it. Could just be me? Maybe walking your reel to the furthest point is the way to go?
I think the OP is right anyway, its a waste of £500 to only work half a day   ;D

It would be a bit of a bummer if you had 100m of hose on the reel and you walked 110m from the van.  ;D ;D
I can remember when waking up stiff in the morning was a good thing.

If he runs hose back to van where does he plug the pole into?

I suppose this method saves time as not being able to clean the windows you would then pack up and go home.

what i do is drop the pole off at the furthest point , connected to the hose . make sure it is secure , laid on the floor against a wall or gate . then drive as far as i am working to . the hose unwinds on its own . easy , just take it steady driving , ;)

I
Right I will try to explain again.  Having the hose fixed in the van and trying to drag it out all the way to the back of the house proved too difficult for a lazy man like me. too many wheeliee bins and plant pots to snag on.
So what I do now is just pick up the pole and the reel with the hose wound on it (hose not plugged in to the van). Walk to the back of the house and then pay out some slack hose and walk carrying the reel (spinning away paying out hose)back  to the van and plug it in.
I find its quicker and I don't get it all snagged up. I don't use 1/2" hose I use microbore so the reel is light to carry. Much less wear and damage to the hose as well
Better?

Just make sure the driver/passenger side doors are locked.leave the back door slightly ajar.why you so paranoid?Do you work in dodgy areas?I'm quite sure you'll be fine.oh and don't leave keys in the ignition!

why not put a van port on the side of your van, takes all of 10 minutes to do and then your van can be locked and you can work safely knowing the van is locked.
