Dirty Water What Can We Do With It
« on: December 01, 2005, 03:40:54 pm »
I was at the NCCA Road Show few days ago, and there was a comment that it is now against the law to get ride of your waste water from a portable machine down the drain in the street or any other place other than the loo.
Is this right or not. If it is against the law what law?
not all houses have a loo on the ground floor taking buckets up and down stairs is not a good idea if you have just cleaned them.
Does this mean that we are no longer allowed to empty our machines dirty water into the street gutter or down the drains in the street?

Bob,

I think this is one of those common sense issues.

I like most of us work out of the house , so I am not going to go back in to get rid of dirty water.I do however dispose of dirty water in a downstairs loo  while I can.

The TM users are recommended to dispose of  dirty water into sewer or onto waste land not near a river/stream but not into the drainage system.

I will still use drains until someone catergorically says iIcan't.

Cheers

I got pulled up on this a couple of years ago !!!!!!

I emptied my T/M into a gutter because I could not use the loo inside as it was higher than the van and got pulled over by a angry pedestian, he went nuts and after calming him down and showing him the chemicals were safe he insisted that it wasnt the chems,  but what was in the carpet, as it was a minging pub carpet.

well thought id rectified the prob, not knowing he had got onto env health, got back to depo to find a report had been sent through. we issued them with all cosh sheets from the manafacturer but they insisted too that it wasnt the chems but what was in the carpet as we dont always know.

So now I almost always use sewers wich are realy easy to find or toilets

U can be fined for using drains as these are not treated and go to the sea or local rivers so be aware  :o :o :o :o

Hi all,
I used to work in the water industry and i know theres a big fine for disposing of contaminates in a storm drain (grilled drains in road side) they lead straight to rivers etc. The only inlets to the sewer system are toilets or external inlets that pipes from sinks or bathrooms etc which also carry detergents lead into.
Regards,
Ollie

You can buy drain keys from any one of a number of drain cleaning equipment suppliers on the net. Just make sure when you open a manhole you don't leave it unattended as someone falling down it will bring you a ton more **** than getting caught putting water down a storm drain.
All the gulleys on a property that have sinks leading into them are usually connected to the main sewer. Alternatively pour it onto an area of soil or garden, as long as there isn't a stream or river nearby you'll be fine.
If they are fine with the detergents you are using going down the drain, they'd have a hell of a job proving the dirt out the carpet was in anyway hazardous.

Well, I certainly wouldn't walk into a customers back garden and throw 2 or 3 buckets of water over the grass, river nearby or not!!!

Nor would I empty it down a storm drain, I agree with Ollie, A hefty fine will catch up with you at some time.

As I understand it from the roadshow, T/M's are allowed to empty into a sewer by lifting a manhole cover IF it is on private land! and portables, I use a downstairs loo where possible, if not then a drain that the kitchen sink leads to.

Did you know, T/M's have to have a waste disposal thingy license!!

Hope this helps

Chris

Be carfull of soak aways also,

Some use bio vac bacteria to help speed the proccess of waste dicomposing, and our chemicals will kill them out right, or fill up there tanks

Trust me ive seen one over flow into there garden not nice, but wasnt my fault too much, as it was a new home owner and never new it was there and wasnt emptied before the old owners left  :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

I was under the assuption that it was ok to dispose of waste through a gravel bed, ie a gravel drive etc, im proberbly wrong :-[ but sure i read some where.
Another point if there is so much legislatio regarding disposal .How do these hand car wash based on supermarket carparks, pub carparks etc, ect, get away with it?  they are disposing down normal drains, I have mentioned this point before but ,still not if its ok for them and not c.c. waste :) :)

I believe car washes are required to have a waste tank below the grill which is periodically emptied .

My son sells a water Cleaning service to Industry!!

And he makes a hell of a lot of money in doing so, it is a BIG OFFENCE to dump water where ever you wish.

He charges £40.00 a ton to clean and businesses are crying out for his services.
I get better looking each day!!

Guys
Truckmount owners should have a waste carriers licence.

The guys doing car washing in car parks etc are being shut down all the time.

Its a 20K fine to allow waste water into the storm drains.

Instead of geting a drain key dispose down the rodding point next to the man hole cover it goes to the same place and is a lot easier to access.

Cheers
