puzzled
« on: November 19, 2011, 11:17:08 am »
got called back to a house last night as her back downstairs windows were a mess, i've done it wfp for over a year & always been bang on, well they were all smeared it looked like grease,  didn't smell. i'd run out of pure so had to blade 'em & no prob, she's just started b&b so doing the bottoms herself with water, fairy liquid  & dash of meths so they should of been fairly good before i did 'em,  she's out in the wilds so its not from cars or tractors. i do the full house off 1 backpack & tops & fronts were fine
i can only think the meths has summat to do with it but what     anyone got any ideas please

I would blame the meths as it can be greasy, more so when its cold.Instead of meths I  would use Iso or I P A as its oil free and will help clean glass and prevent freezing water.Meths was use with news paper to clean glass as a solvent for the ink on the paper and as the spirit evaporated the paper would absorb the oil.

why is she putting meths on the i window,  tell just if they need to clean there windows  just to use fairy  or to phone you

offer her the options to have the btms done every two weeks

she says her nan told her to use meths  & she's always done windows & mirrors like that
i'll tell her whats been said about meths tho & see what she says. its well out of town so not worth going up just for the bottoms
cheers anyway

i always put a drop of meths in the bucket with soap

it is a spirit with very good cleaning properties and has iso whats it name so helps prevent freezing.

are the windows in question wooden framed by any chance ?

Okay -

i will try my best to explain, it's something thats happened to me 4 times in just under 3 years and i don't know what it is - where it comes from or why it happens - the ONLY common factor is that the 3 different properties have wood frames.

On the above mentioned houses very occasionally after wfp cleaning there appears to be white grease marks - they usually range from 3 to 6mm in length and cover the first 2 inches of glass from the top of the frame down.

before cleaning the glass looks okay - nothing odd - no heavy soiling etc..  but after the brush has passed these marks appear wfp will not take them off - it's either a blade job of buff with microfibre - if you touch them they spread and smear ! - it acts a bit like silicone and i'm sure it's the pure on the glass turning this stuff opaque with the movement of the brush spreading them the brush is clean and it may not effect the next window

in each case the property never had the problem before & has never had a repeat (so far) after this event.
however 1 property had a different window per clean do this over 3 cleans...

sorry if this sounds complicated and not a straightforward answer... but as you've now cleaned off the window
the next clean may go without a hitch.
