Need to stop the leaks
« on: November 09, 2011, 11:01:16 am »
I'm now fed up with hoselock type fittings.

I have seen some people mention the Geka fittings, but how do you connect them to your DI vessel etc?

In time the rubber o rings wear and/or perish. They need to be replaced from time to time, although I do agree with you that they aren't what they used to be.
Any good garden shop should have them, or you can get them on Ebay.

In the last 6 years of WFP I have only replaced my Hozelok coupling to my hose reel once. It also gets treated to a tiny smear of vaseline occassionally.

Alot of people say the Geka fittings are good but how can I fit that on to my DI and hose reel?

Might try the john guest fittings there pretty good.

Hello, I use geka fittings from here

http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=geka&source=web&cd=3&sqi=2&ved=0CGAQFjAC&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.easywatering.co.uk%2Facatalog%2FGeka.html&ei=hcS6TovjNIay8gPVhPCiBw&usg=AFQjCNEY8HMnndyR03QrbQy0nTp0jBe9nw&cad=rja

they now sell hoselock type ones that are very handy as you no longer have to use a jubilee clip over a barbed type.
The other half that you'd need for the di is available in different sizes 1/2 " 3/4" and 1 " either in male or female coupling.
Go to a local plumbing trade counter with your di if need be and buy a threaded brass reducer to fit in the di cannister and thread the geka fittings on to it.
They really are worth buying
unfortunately there is no alternative I know of that connects hose to a reel other than hoselock type, I find the gardena ones to be best and  not leak
