Good going, Ian, but make sure before you drop them, that you politely explain what the score is with 'can you leave 'em this month, mate'.

The last two I've had, I just explain that if I don't clean them at our previously agreed frequency, then I take them off my books.  Both customers relented, I cleaned, and they have been fine since.  Though I did get one with a yellow sticky with a cheque, so I'll drop that one.

But try to explain when you can what the score is, otherwise you may lose customers without having too.

Just a suggestion.

I don't know why you are so touchy about the leave it till after Christmas brigade. Its an integral part of my round to stand some down over that time. It takes the pressure off me.

Have you never been skint? Money a bit tight? Bills to pay?

Paragraph One reply:- It's not touchy - I have set my business parameters; one of which is that if you want to change frequency you ask first. Another is that if you agree to a frequency then you stick to it until you want to change it..

Paragraph two reply? Yes, yes and yes and the last yes is that when I have bills to pay I pay them and don't expect to be let off. If I go on holiday for a month then I expect to pay (or don't expect a rebate on) my council tax, car insurance, phone bill etc. ad nauseum.

It's a game of three halves!

window cleaning isnt compulsary. if someone cant afford a few quid a month then dont expect to get a monthly clean. we all have bills to pay. if people cant afford a window cleaner they shouldnt have one. if you feel sympathy for these skint people then clean them for free.

i just work for money. not to help people get a few freebies because they spent too much on holiday or on some deal they got at the furniture wharehouse.

Freebies? did anyone mention freebies?  Why kick a perfectly good customer into touch just because they have had a big bill on their car or whatever?
Buisiness is about making money not having temper tantrums and throwing all you toys out of the pram at the first sign of trouble.

I have had a few customers that have had a bit of time out but still came back. I also have customers who drop out in the winter and it suits me fine.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not skint now. I'm getting by, investing a little in my house I've bought. But I'm basically living on the bread line with not much spare cash and spending a good 60 hours plus a week earning it. But if I quit my job to start up on my own again then I would be absolutely skint. Thats why I've been posting threads along the line of " How long does it take to build a round." I really want to do it though as I'm sick of being moaned at my people who don't even understand the window cleaning industry who think the know better than me. I don't claim to know everything about the trade but I know it a lot better than anyone who hasn't ever used a squegee or water fed pole.

Personally I'd love to buy £1k a months worth of work for a reasonable price. But I would have to save up the money for a few weeks.

you might want to calm down mr green. im really touched that you empethyse with your customers and take into concideration when they cant afford a tenner to pay their window cleaner. i dont. if they cant afford my service its goodbye. kick a good customer into touch? a good customer can afford to pay and anyone who cant but still wants their windows cleaned becomes an ex customer very quickly.

bad payers and the can you leave it this time brigade need clearing out. let me know where you work and ill recommend you. ill try to make sure they havent had to pay a big bill on their car or whatever before i send them over to you.
