method statements

Hi all,

I know i am probably leaving myself open for abuse but could anyone tell me why we need method statements and what they contain? from what I can gather they serve little purpose. Could someone take pitty on me and help

i may be in for a mouthful as well,its for h & s for staff the method they use as well as that my insurance wanted to know i had them in place the other day,i said yes because i have for toilets, moping, and vacuuming but was not sure if needed for dusting and so onfor office.my one for toilets for example has the title first ,then equipment you use for this task as well as warning signs, then how you do it procedure,,clean a loo step by step ,finishing off by saying after use, all equipment should be checked, cleaned, dried and returned to storage area remove gloves and wash hands :P
