Erm, there is a lot of talk about keeping the water warm enough to work at the moment.

I do a lot of work on the high street, so even if my water is workable i still cant use it because I cant leave water all over the pavement in case it freezes and people slip on it and hurt themselves.

The principle would be the same pretty well wherever you are, if you leave water laying about all over the place in freezing conditions it will re freeze and become a hazzard. So to be better safe than sorry, if the gear freezes in my van it stays frozen and the ladders come off.

I would rather shin up and down a cold ladder for a few weeks than see an old person slip and fall on the ice I made.

Probably a bit of good advice would be, be careful with the water during the winter. Wfp is still a relative newcomer so we havent seen it yet, but I would bet a quid that in the next few years (maybe months) that somebody will face a lawsuit for negligence.

Mind you, that is easier for me to say, things dont freeze for long in these parts.

I spread salt under the windows before I begin,.. a good bit of it too, about 2-3 kg per house. I would avoid working wfp anywhere that there is a lot of foot traffic when its sub zero though as its just too risky.

If the weather drops below -6 salt ceases to be effective remember,...

i avoid using wfp above or on doorways, and maybe choose which properies are suitable ie if water is to drip into grass or flower beds then it wouldn`t be a problem. last winter i got by as tradded plenty of bugalows, and managed with cold water best i could. this year im set up with hotwash so see how it goes.

Last winter during the seriously cold weather and snow, any job that required ladders just had to wait until the weather improved. I didn't received a single complaint and anyone who uses a ladders in icy or sub zero conditions has to be, quite frankly, an idiot.

With the various shops, etc, although it lowered my profits, I used screen wash diluted 2 to 1.

best solution all round
try and put some money away to cover for bad weather in winter,why anyone would bother trying to clean windows in conditions is beyond me

Yes, best advice is to use your loaf.  We managed pretty well last year, we do any shops traditionally anyway, and skipped out some windows above doorways etc.  Customers appreciate the fact that you are concerned about their welfare.

Succintly put, i wouldnt risk leaving water all over public pavements, i do any on the main street mid day so it doesnt freeze, and drains away before night time.  Even with salt down.....someone will accuse you of risking others welfare.

I can never understand why people wfp shop fronts or maybe they cannot trad
