Similair thing happened to me last year. I bought a BB 8520 as a stand in and couldnt fault it. Does everything the more expensive ones do and can be picked up for just over £100 new or £40 to £60 used. Great phone for the price.

get an android

http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/mobiles/mobile-phones/SAMSUNG-I5500-EUROPA-THREE/PPAY?src=dealFinderReviews&tariffNetworks=&tariffContract=&gift=#modelDetailsTabs

this is £50 on three £115 on other networks..

much better than a blackberry

Blackberry is the only phone that uses push e-mail. Memory is much more efficient, and for users who rely on e billing and electronic payments the blackberry enterprise server software really comes into its own.

When a customer callls one of our numbers, we get the voicemail messge e-mailed through blackberry enterprise server, and can pick up messages at no extra cost, 100%·secure, wherever we are. Our blackberries also pick up all customer enquiries, shedual information and customer details at the push of a button. If you have a blackberry playbook, (which is what i am using at the moment at the boat in chichister) you can download andriod apss, access e-mails though the playbook desktop and always be contactable via e mail wherever.

Blackberry truly does knock the spots off of even the i phone in this respect.

I have a samsung galaxy and I have no problem receiving emails it checks every 15 minutes I could have it check every five minutes if I wanted. That is for POP accounts.

googlemail has Push-Email.

so does yahoo & hotmail for android via an app

Blackberry is a dated. And the Playbook....? Please!!! iPad blows it out the water. iPhone is the business phone of choice by a long way.
