SLX pole lever problems
« on: September 20, 2011, 10:05:12 pm »
I've got an SLX30 and the forth lever thread has had it

The pole spins and won't clamp shut

What can I do as a temporary measure?

I've ordered spares from Gardiners today, but I'm up against it for tomorrow.

Lesson learned-always carry spares and don't be tight!!

Are you talking about the plastic barrel thread ??

If so you could go up a size in bolt and make it cut a new thread ( sorry cant remember what size the original is )  OR find a local engineering shop who could re - thread the barrel with larger thread or Helicoil the thread so you can use the original bolt

Take the lever and nut off the base section and take the base section off, put the lever and nut on the duff one and use the pole as a twenty five footer 'till the spares arrive.

Thanks Hydro

I need the full 30ft really, so might have to shift some work around

You might be able to get another half turn or more with a pair of pliers or mole grips on the bolt. It will chew the plastic finger adjuster a bit but might get you going. Unless the barrel nut is completely stripped.

And don't overtighten your slx nuts; they only need a tweak when they're loose.  :)
