modular or telescopic?
« on: September 19, 2011, 04:31:53 pm »
I'm finally getting kitted out with a WFP system after much procrastination, but I'm not sure what poles to get.

I was thinking of getting a 3 storey fibreglass pole for regular everyday stuff. And a telescopic carbon fibre 60ft pole that I'm hoping to use for the larger commercial work?

But the guy i was talking to at cleaning warehouse offered me the alternative of a brodex modular pole.

I told him I need to think about it as I hadn't really given it much thought.

As well, I've gone with a 650 litre system, that should be enough shouldn't it?

Gardiner SLX 18' or 21' for your everyday work.

Gardiner CLX 27' for your three story work.

It's a good combination.  The CLX isn't as good as the SLX, but you'll be using the SLX far more regularly.

And don't get a telescopic 60' pole; that means you'll have to heave all of it, even if you're just using it from 40 upwards; get a modular carbon fibre pole if you need one; Gardiners also sell these.

PS.  I'm not on commission from Gardiners and neither am I a JW.

But really, if you can afford it, the SLX is tops for your every-day-pole.

Dont bother with the fibreglass pole - you'll replace it soon enough.

Get yourself an SLX or CLX depending on funds and take a look at gardiners 60ft poles

I have a clx and can answer any Q's you have. Your coach site helped me ALOT in the early days and i'd be more than happy to re-pay in helping you with your wfp set up

I would suggest an slx 25 for everyday stuff, it will do most 3rd floor stuff and then either the slx xtreme or sl2 for higher stuff.  If you don't have a wfp system yet the chances are that you don't have 60ft work yet either. If that's the case I'd invest more into an every day pole and then worry about longer poles when you get the work.

A lighter rigid pole that you use every day will pay dividends as the speed increase is minutes on each house. I'd even suggest getting the slx xtreme 25 with the 5 ft extension as an every day pole if you can stretch to it. No pun intended. Also look at the weights and actual length of the various poles that you look at.

Simon.

Glad to hear the window cleaning coach helped you out Blue Frog, especially considering you're a fellow Bromsgrovian. I actually live in Rednal now though. So does everybody pretty much use gardiners poles?

The cleaning warehouse in wolverhampton are fitting me my system.

Alot use gardiners poles. I have a clx 18 here you could take a look at if you wanted.

Had my kit from the cleaning warehouse too ... Joe & Andy are a good pair, though i know they have some other guys working in the shop aswell now.

Seriously though stick away from 27ft fibre and even metal poles ... you will replace them

I would suggest SLX 25' telescopic for a good all round pole (even on ground floor) plus get a 5' extension to add to it if needed.  A pole for much higher work could be the 48' Xtreme with optional extensions if your budget is up to it.  My personal preference is telescopic over modular though the Gardiner SL2 is very light and quite strong.

Dont get the brodex mate, and its pointless spending money on a 60ft pole just yet till you got the work to use it, Ive got a 18ft, 2x25ft, and 35ft slx and if I was to only carry one pole id get the 30ft slx.

yeah i'm thinking of getting a 30ft slx now after looking at the gardiner website. It seems like a good all rounder.

cheers guys for the help, as always its appreciated.

Yeah i think its a good idea to wait to get a 60ft pole. I'll just get a 30 or 35 slx begin with.

If you can afford a 35ft get that and get a but cap too fit the 5th section so you can have it at 25ft then just add the other 2 sections as and when you need them.
