Pump, controller setup advice please
« on: September 14, 2011, 11:21:22 am »
Hi all, im in the process of setting up for wfp work and im having issues with the pump setup

I have Shurflo 1.8gpm 100psi pump and a WCW Digital Flow Controller that came with a van i bought, it came with the pump installed a ceiling level :o needless to say it wasn't working very well up there, lots of air locks, spluttering...

I have repositioned it all now and pump is at floor level, pressure is massively increased, when on 99 the pressure switch kicks in after few seconds. to get the pump flowing constant, it needs to dropped to 50 where im getting a contant flow of 2.5 lpm. and all the way down to 25ish to get 1 lpm.

When i switch the tap off at the pole it shuts off in 1-2 seconds, but the pump blips on every 10 seconds of so, is that normal?

The pressure switch on the surflo pump is connected, but adjusting the bolt does nothing, and I bypassed the pump switch by joining the 2 red cables and it made no difference, the controller seems to be bypassing it anyway, is that right?

I have 100m microbore to the new yellow pole hose on a Gardiners pole with standard xtreme brush with pencil jets

Just after some advice on this setup please, does it sound ok now? and should I be aiming to get 1lpm for regulars and boost it a bit for first/dirty cleans?

Many Thanks

Ok

You have the digital control from WCW. 1st now the pump has been repositioned you will need to set the auto calibration on the unit.
To do this first set up your pole with the water running then follow these steps

Turn on the control (push any button) until the display comes on
Press the up arrow until the display shows 30

Press and hold the up button and enter button to go into calibration
CAL will be displayed

Press down to enter auto cal ( Aut will display) then push the enter button

Aut will display during calibration it will take a few moments for the control to auto calibrate. this is normal.

Once calibrated a value will show usually between 30 and 50 depending on your set up. Push the enter button the auto cal is now set and you will see SET displayed.

If need be I can email a set of quick start instructions.
When you Dead end the pole (water Off) there is a delay to the water shutting off as once the pump switches off there is still some pressure in the hose, so i would expect a couple of seconds delay.

Now the hum you hear is the clever bit. The control is testing for Dead end, it does this by send a short pulse to the pump to see if flow has been restored, the pulse activates the pump briefly (1/2 a second usually less) hence the hum approx every 10 seconds.

We recommend the pump pressure switch is fitted as it gives additional protection to the complete system and control. Hopefully the fuse has also been fitted we recommend for best protection the fuse should be as close to the battery as possible.

If you need any other advice drop me a line or use my email

Ian

Thank you very much!

Its working much better now after following your instructions, I now have to turn it all the way down to 9 to get 1 lpm, is that normal?

If you could email the instructions for the controller, that would be great dylanburnz@gmail.com

Did my first couple jobs today and went really well ;D raised the flow to around 1.5 lpm as they were quite mucky and im a newbie is that sounding about right?

Thanks again

You are welcome as the manufacturer we want to support the control and the people using them as much as possible 8)

the control will comfortably run up to 5.2 litres per minute and in testing we have run them higher, You will find that depending on your system installation that the flow rate will be different for different length of poles hose and how much muck you need to clean off. so your settings are certainly normal.

I have emailed a quick start guide for you. Please let me know if there is anything else we can do to help you.
