Does it vary by carpet companies or is standard for the customer to store furniture to have the carpets cleaned. As it is now I will have to have two rooms at a time cleaned and pay more for the carpet cleaners to come back. Has anybody ever just put their stuff outside or have any tips that I could use to try and save some money by avoiding having the cleaners come twice.

get a professional cleaner to come in who will 1) move furniture, and more importantly 2) will put it back on either tabs or blocks. ive cleaned loads of fully furnished houses, and yes ive moved the lot and put it back.

shop around and instead of asking the usually boring ignorant question of how much? ask the proper questions, like....do you move furniture? what sort of machine do you use? how long will it take to dry? (can you garauntee that drying time?) are you insured? can you give me an honest opinion of what results your likely to achieve? do you rinse thoroughly?  the list goes on but believe me, theres a lot to choose from when choosing a carpet cleaner. and theres a massive difference in service and results.

Dont you just hate it when you move the furniture and there are loads of furniture rust and dye marks from previous cleaners who haven't bothered to put pads and blocks down. The thing I hate the most is where the carpet is wool with jute backing and you move the sofa or a sideboard and the carpet is brown where previous cleaners have left it to wet and just placed furniture back onto the carpet without raising for air flow to assist drying.

It takes just a few more mins to protect the furniture with blocks and foil to stop rust,wood stain marks etc..

usually there is no point to move nay furniture it it is where its been for last x years. carpet underneath is usually very clean. Whenever i move the furniture i place pads underneath(i use tesco bags:))and if it is not on legs i move it somewhere else and tell customers to move back in 3ish hours(depending on carpet and weather).
Shift them all to one side and when part of the room is done shift them to the other side
