First Sofa today
« on: August 23, 2011, 05:24:29 pm »
Cleaned my first sofa today. Purple velvet, really grubby & once I stopped worrying about causing damage the results were impressive.

Sorry no pics uploaded yet

Quick question do you guys tend to stay away from velvet upholstery?

Chances are it was a synthetic material, how did you clean it.
Im glad you were happy with the results mate.

Thanks mate, I vacuumed, pre sprayed with prochem fibre restorer, brushed, extracted with warm water, brushed & toweld. I had a dryer set up but also used a hair dryer when I brushed. Once I had done I spayed a light mist of prochem
Fibre & fabric rinse.

I would put the FF rinse in the solution tank will save you a little time and aid drying, rather than spraying on after extraction mate

If it was velvet and you hwe it, chances are the owners would be crying now  :o

Probably not, think ive done one genuine velvet in 15 years, the rest are the synthetic stuff, although some good ones out there,

well done Paul, you'll soon be sick to death of them  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Only joking, I actually like doing upholstery, Just make sure you charge enough to cover a decent amount per hour, I go for £25 per seating area and this is normally more than enough to turn a decent profit.

Hi Guys

As I'm getting older I like doing upholstery less, I suppose cleaning carpets with a TM is fairly easy and upoholstery seems like hard work.

I have been doing lots of office chairs which is a real struggle but the money's good.

Cheers

Same here Doug, I raised my upholstery price to put people off a little and it has worked but people still do book, for me I get better money with carpet cleaning.

Remember velvet is only a type of weave.

If it was cotton velvet then he may have had issues, synthetic velvet, as we all know,  can tolerate wet cleaning.

I mostly enjoy upholstery these days.

Three years down the line and I'd say we have a pretty efficient way of doing it. Two of us makes a difference as one pre-sprays and one extracts. The second person can also clean the back and sides with Chemspec Fast Drying Upholstery Shampoo and towel off the extracted areas rather than standing and watching the machine operator.

A great way of doing things!
