« on: July 10, 2011, 07:06:57 am »
Does anyone else have a problem with no reference numbers when custies transfer payment to your account.
Are there any banks that do not have a ref. facility on there web pages.
If so how have solved the problem. Thanks chaps for your input.

For the ones you find difficult to match with a customer price it at say £7.99 rather than £8.00.   Also ask the customer for the last 4 digits of their account as banks sometimes only show the account No. of person paying in.

Co-op show the reference.  Even Santander have started doing so very recently - though I wouldn't trust that bunch of incompetents not to remove it again.

I doubt that the custies are right about that.  Many people use BACS to pay credit card bills so you must have a reference box for the 16 digit card number.

I think it is right that some dont have a reference - i've had this in the past when using a personal account. I changed to a business account and dont have any problems any more as it shows up the custards name
Only those who risk going too far will truly know how far they can actually go

If you use George it makes it a little easier.

George gives each customer a unique reference number, so ask all your online paying customers to use that. I think every bank gives enough space for 3 digits

I used to have loads of problems but since using this it has almost sorted it. (I still get the odd one forget but can usually figure out who they are)

I changed nothing at my end.  It changed at their's.  It appears that accounts are being treated differently depending which bank you came from.  I wasn't from A & L.  I was with Abbey.
The only BACS I receive with Santander are three jobs that I never got around to changing over to Co-op Bank.
