after giving a price,do you follow it up?
« on: July 05, 2011, 07:28:03 am »
i have been thinking, over time theres been a fair few that have asked me for a price but then they  never followed through. these looked / sounded to be normal people ,not skinflinters/bargainers

are these ever worth getting in touch with or are they wasters from what you have experienced ? so far , i always keep a note of anybody who asks me, but then later just put these in the bin

IMHO they have either had a cheaper price or were checking out what their current windie is charging so u don't really want them .... Or they don't want them cleaning that much so would they be bothered to send payments ?? Most folks say yes there and then if genuine however all that said who knows

Sometimes they are sometimes they aren't.....sorry but that is the case and you will never know who wants to be chased up and who doesn't.

Have chased up some, who have got upset and said we don't want to be pushed into it......... ::)

Have chased up some, who said thank god you phoned as I have lost the quote and couldn't get hold of you ::)

Of course if you do chase up and they have gone with someone else, this is an ideal opportunity to see what others are charging in your area :)

Posture is half the battle. When we get people coming up to us in the street and asking how much we charge, we say depends what street and you will have to wait untill next month before we can fit you into the service as we are over booked as it is.

Works a treat. Stops nearly all the messers and not this timers etc. Discussing prices is a sign of problems to come in the future. Easier for you to find custies than it is for custies to find a window cleaner.

We don't follow up and go knocking their door to see if they need us or not.

Hi Cozy
Interesting, as you have a spread of English and German customers.

When I worked for Bosch in South Africa reporting to the head office in Leinfelden, we could never get an immediate answer to anything, as the German way was to discuss it from all angles and in great detail before a conclusion was reached. I would have imagined they were the same in their private dealings, so would need to keep prodding them. (Mind you that was many years ago so maybe things have changed now.)

LOL, know what you mean mate. No I was talking about when we are in the MOD estates and mostly women approach us to ask what we charge. Germans book a clean or ask for a quote by phone or the website. The German mentality is expensive must mean quality. It's great here  ;D ;D ;D

No really, they want their pound of flesh. They expect high standards, so we have to work for the money mate. No free lunches.

i mentioned something similar to ian h20 a few weeks back,i find people who stop you in the street ask for a price and then say "oh have you get a business card"you never hear from them again so now i just say"no i havent is the price ok?"

This may just be that they forget to follow up or they arent too serious about a clean.
I counter this by getting their details anyway before i quote then i can follow it up

I used to chase them up if i could get a number for them or if i had one when they rang.

If i remember right i used to get 60% of the jobs i chased up there or there abouts

will have to remember to start doing that again as i forgot all about it

If you are new and growing your round then I would say not to leave 'any stone unturned.'

We aren't looking for new business at the moment as we are on the limit customer wise, so don't bother.

When I am asked for a price, most accept straight away. I never follow any up who say that they will think about it, as I don't want to make them feel as if I am being pushy. If they come back later and want me to go ahead and clean, I will, but any who don't aren't giving me the impression that they care anyway.
