Radiator leak + new print advice ?
« on: June 21, 2011, 09:12:53 am »
Just got this enquiry through, any advice on how to deal with a large area of radiator juice and newsprint combined ?

We've suffered some staining to a carpet. Very briefly, I loosened a radiator, while decorating, to paint behind it. The radiator has leaked over night onto newspaper that I'd laid on top of the carpet and the ink from the newspaper has combined with the dirty water from the radiator to stain the carpet (which is off white in colour). The affected area measures about one square metre. Can you help?

Well I went in with neat browning prescription, left it to dwell for 15 mins while I treated a blood stain in another room, that all came out, even after, custy had tried White wizard.
Radiator leak was not improved that much, also tried some rust remover, made slight difference, told him I will go back later in the week,as passing by.Any other chems I can try,he is resigned to the fact it's a replacement, thinking along the lines of sod met

I was called round to look at a stain a few weeks ago. Her radiator leaked a large patch on her 80/20 biscuit coloured carpet. The stain was very dark looking. Infact it looked like it was still wet but i was bone dry.

I tried browning treatment from chempec (as i already had it in a spray bottle. That didn't touch  it. I also made up sod met (spray n go) again, this did nothing. And I also tried some champion rust remover thinking that there will be some form of rusty water in the radiator but again nothing :( Was an insurance job in  the end.

This is a natural fibre Berber pale ish off white, told him in my e mail it may well be an insurance job,so he is not expecting miracles, which is good as I don't think I can shift it,it's turned it really uite orange in places,so he must have drained the system, and got some sort of inhibitor in there

Back to this one tomorrow arvo, have armed myself with some ammonia, some and hydrogen peroxide ,couldn't get any sod met, flipping local home brew shop has closed down.
Am I right in thinking I mix the ammonia with some hot water ? Then mist in on with a spray bottle, wait for desired reaction the rinse out,I do have some oxibright from Prochem, but it's 7 years old,and in one big lump,so I fear it has past it's best.
This is basically a kill or cure attempt,he is well aware that he may be calling his insurance company,I did go into detail about him not getting me in until he has cleared it with them, but he was adamant that I go and attempt it

Went and had another crack this arvo, hit it first with red rx,then iron and towel, got some transfer.
Then I hit it with ammonia made a strong mix with water from a kettle, left it to dwell for about 20 mins, little or no improv.
Then as a last resort mixed some ammonia with some hydrogen peroxide ,again little or no noticeable difference.

Did find some useful info though,http://www.ics-online.co.uk/cleaning-and-using-bleach.htm

Also don't get strong hydrogen peroxide on your skin, turns it white :o
