It is all about choice, some people swear by powders such as Crystal Green or High Heat, but others love Extraction Pro or Formula 90, it depends on you and what you prefer.

I dont think the question should be what cleans beter its what leave residue behide that will attract dirt? I did a test when I chose what detergent to before i swapped to microsplitters, I got hold of samples of all the detergents i could, then mixed them up to work strength next i put the liquid into saucers on the window and waited for them to dry out. the result you get what you pay for.

I know that this test was not perfect but it gave a idea what might be left behind. This would be dependant on how powerful your machine is and how wet you leave it.

With regard the prochem products and price watch the dilutions as you will also be looking for value and they do tend to affect it.

You need to remember also that detergent is only one aspect, heat, mechanical action, and dwell will come into how well you clean.

Be carefull when using some chemspec products as you can change the ph depending on how you mix them. prochem and chemspec are very good.

Why not consider prespraying and bush in and then rinse if you want to use detergents. Or use microsplitters.

There have recently  been a couple of well respected CC's who are saying that when they used microsplitters with a fresh water rinse , the resoiling was significantly quicker.

They have gone back to detergents with better results.

I think it would be useful to experiment and report results back.

That was quite interesting about quicker resoiling when rinsing out microsplitters I must have missed that topic when it was posted.

I seem to have read a long time ago in a book written by Dr Brown that if a carpet was cleaned with only water then resoiling would be quick. I just put that down to the fact that it would have not removed all the soiling and spotters from the carpet hence the quick resoil.

What I have noticed is that the residue from M/S is quite sticky on the tops of the containers so  if it is not rinsed out of the carpet properly then I would expect a resoiling problem.

There must be some way to put this one to bed? I cant believe that producers of deteregent or microsplitters have not wanted to prove beyond doubt one way or the other.

What needed in this and other subects that keep coming up is an independant body. why dont we have one on the line of "which" ? Most magazines have their advertisers to look out for so they are not in a position to do it.

Any ideas?

I am a member of BICSc and ever year we get a report on what money thay ahve taken and what they have spent it on, they make loads of money, most of it comes from training programs. Some body like this would have the money to pay out for these types of tests. or say some univeristy might want to do some experiments or studies?

It would need to be a body that was not in someones pocket. "Independants" is a hard thing to find these days because with the large amounts of money involved in most things. Money Talks.

Just for a bit of fun, how would you go about testing powder vs liquid or detergent vs microsplitters? . the test itself is important as it must show to both sides that it is far?

With regards to m/s i use one step  90% of the time op cleaning. i tested one step for resoiling before i used this brand and it is fairly easy to test. Make your cleaning solution up in the normal way place a few drops on a dish and let it evapoarte. When dry you can feel if the residue is sticky or not. I have never found the tops of the bottles sticky and all my work is referals
