Gearbox oil RX-20
« on: May 22, 2011, 04:32:53 pm »
Decided today to give my equipment the once over and checked the oil in my Hydramaster HE RX-20 and noticed it is bone dry. Hoping it still ok, last time I used it was fine. I have to be completely honest I have the machine a good while and never thought about checking the oil in it. I know thats bad, just wanted to know if anybody knows how much oil goes into it and where do you put it in from? Is it the vent plug. The manual isnt very clear, usually aint. Also apparently they have two different gearboxes, one is a regular RX20 the other is High Speed, and the high speed gearbox is a permanently gearbox so you do not need to change the oil. Is the HE (high efficiency) version the High speed one, I know its different in that it has only three jets and the vac slots are narrower to the older model but dont know if it is high speed.
Could phone hydramaster but dont fancy paying £100 for advice :-\

The R X 20 130rpm is the high speed, and according to HM the oil in the gear box should be changed every 100 hours, you have to take the vent plug out insert a small plastic pipe and connect it to a hand pump and pump the old oil out, the add new, oil level I think should be about 10 mm.

Thanks Dean!
How would one know if its 130rpm?
I have it about three years now, I know the high speed one is the newer model but didnt they continue making the older ones because some people preferred them.
Could be completely wrong?

They do have a new model which is the RX 20 'WDR'  which has an 90 RPM use mainly in water / flood damage so it does not fling water every where.

When I got my RX 20 the Spec details said it is 130 rpm. also the cleaning head slots are slighly smaller. But I have found the rx works and handles better with glides, ps you still get a pumped up right arm on big jobs.

Yeah Dean your right, gotta hold of my manual and it's the 130rpm so it's high speed. Thanks for that! Know what you mean about one arm hanging after any big job, starting to look like rafael nadal.

I always find after a a large job using the rx my right arm is pumped up and my bicept is killing me, iv tryed the handle position in all ways close to my hips and low down at top of my thigh. I only really use the rx on my large commercial jobs day nurserys, nursing homes, social clubs, most of them are 250 Sq2 min. But great consistant cleaning inmpresive results customers always happy.
