Any chance !
« on: May 13, 2011, 08:21:59 am »
I have booked a job in for next week an almost new carpet has an orange dog vomit stain on it, the carpet is a 100% wool natural loop pile that cost the customer a lot of money, she went away for a week and left a housesitter looking after the dogs  ::)
I explained that it may not be possible to remove etc etc, but she wants to go ahead with it to see if i can improve it, i looked on the search facility and very little came up aprt from fresh water rinse first maybe rinse with f and f rinse, or try M Power any other suggestions welcome, would be nice to get a result as its a very wealthy customer  8)

It sounds to me as if the dog may have been eating those dog chews, a full range of fantastic colours, i would suggest the usual coffee stain /oj removers  and if the worst comes to the worst sod/met  may do the trick.

If it's an expensive nearly new carpet I would advise contacting her insurance rather than trying to be a hero. Also when customers try to sway your professional judgement, being assertive gives you far more cred than caving in, in the long run.
It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

Just done a off white carpet covered in dark brown diarrhoea from a dog the smell was something to behold especially as it was warm out as well.

After cleaning up the 'loose' stuff we used Fusion 8 on it, at first the smell became worse but after a day all gone and no smell.

On revisit to inspect to see if underlay would need replacing the carpet looked fantastic no smell and no need to take up padding.

You will have other issues with colourings and acid, that they make it impossible but give it go just remember to sanitise all equipment after.

Yes Derek it does, looks just the same

i did stress to the customer that this was unlikely to come out, but because of the cost to replace she said  " you may as well have a go see if you can improve it"

Agree with geoff sod met was my last resort on orange dog sick , force dry with heat from hair dryer, use the back of your hand to gauge the heat
when dry repeat again if needed. customer so pleased she sent the rug straight back she ordered ;D

Give it a go, will give you some experience with sod met if nothing else. Seems you have nothing to loose on this one mate

hi Jim,

those wool loops tend to go quite 'hairy' with frequent passes, suggest use the sapphire.

hot iron/wet towel method may help.

best of luck mate

PS test the Sod met first as it can leave a white area when flushed on a off white wool loop,
or you could feather the edges to disguise it. I found chempecs spray n go safer than craftex's
shift.

I had the similar job with one of my clients about 2 months ago.

The dog was on medication so it made the stain all yellow and orange etc.

had no luck with the carpet n they claimed on there house insurance.

good luck anyway mate

Have only tried sod met on test carpets at home so with good results though, will use this as last resort, what about oxidising as last resort is this a possibilty would think a white stain would look a lot better than this bright orange one she has at the moment.

Try the M power, I have had success with Nemesis on this kind of thing before.

As others have said you have nothing to lose.

My discussions with clients when discussing a possible insurance claim acknowledge the point that an attempted removal may be flogging a dead horse.

But, if you try and fail to remove the stain and the client then decides to make a claim they are not out of pocket as they can add your costs for attempting to remove the stain to their total claim. Thus they will claim back the costs of the new carpet, your bill for attempted removal but less their excess.

When you point this out to them, most clients are happy for you to make the attempt and I am happy in that I'll either be a hero or at least I know the client hasn't wasted any money.

Good point did not consider this.

Did the job today went through M Power first, Stain pro, etc ended up with sod met which got the food colouring out, turned out the dog was fed a curry ! trouble is it left the original yellow burn mark that the acid caused and the orange colouring was hiding, customer was satisfied as i could not have done more to explain the limit of expectations
