Hi all,

Just starting out CCing in Chester area and really looking forward to it. What a fantastic resource this forum has been and really looking forward to getting started from next week.

I have the Airflex Turbo and Magma Inline Heater but can't figure out how to connect the hose to the heater as it has the female socket (blue colour) on the heater but the end of the hose that comes from the machine is also female.. so do I need some kind of convertor? There were no instructions with the heater when I got it and will speak to Sarah at Cleansmart next week anyway but if anyone has photos of how it all goes together it would be really appreciated.

I hope to become as great as many of you guys are on here and will definitely be contributing as my experience and wisdom evolves.

Thanks Paul.. I was thinking that but isn't the heater better placed near the wand rather than next to the machine. I usually have the machine at the front door and run 25+50 ft of hose to reach upstairs etc by which time the water may have cooled down somewhat... not sure though as I haven't tried yet.

If I wanted to use it at the wand, what would be needed do you reckon?

Wanted to ask as well.. do you find a noticeable difference when extracting with heated water rather than just hot tap water. I've been practising on some carpets at home and tried both Wool-X and then Powerburst but there have been black stains which I haven't been able to get completely out. This is with all the usual vacuum, pre-spray, agitation, dwell etc.. so wondering if heat would help. These stains were most likely from spilt fruit juice drinks that have been there for over a year.

Just put the heater in-line. If the magma has a female outlet just plug solution hose into that. Put your 50ft (male) into machine and put the male from the heater into the female on the hose. The heater is just like a hose, with a male inlet and female outlet. Heat alone will not remove all stains. If it's juice you may need a dye stain remover. Prochem red RX is ok, there are others that contain sodium metabisulfite (sod met) like Spray & Go by Chemspec. You really need some training to use these products. Cleansmart run courses with Derek Bolton, get yourself booked in mate. Get a loty of off cuts from a local carpet shop of various fibre types and mixes, stain them up, leave for a week and practice on those.

Cheers Simon for your detailed response I definitely intend to do a spotting course.. only done the 2 day NCCA and the 1 day carpet cleaning with Derek so a spot and stain is next on the list. I guess the thing that confuses me with this Magma is that the female has a bright blue plastic covering, suggesting that it's the input side of the heater (e.g blue, meaning cold water inlet?). There's also a black small hose coming from it which is the male end and it's wrapped in a protective sheath, suggesting to me that it would be the output side of the heater (sheath protecting the boiling water coming out).. oh well, will just have to give it a go and see what happens

Getting the off cuts and doing some damage on them is a good idea.. will definitely try that. Thanks again!

The Blue cover is heat protection, though I must confess I do not use one but do have an Airflex and the un-shielded male on the other end would be very hot. It's probably sheathed in black so it's not confused with other hoses.

For very dirty carpets the Magma is a very useful bit of kit, keep the solution hose insulated though, its gets very hot.

Other wise i find carpet shops to be unhelpful to carpet cleaners (and quite rightly i suppose lol), thats what i've found anyways. Unless you are friends with someone that works in one, or have some kinda refferal scheme set up with them.

Many thanks for your reply. I presume that you only use the Magma for really manky carpets and just use hot tap water the rest of the time?

Where do you get the solution hose insulation from? Does it just slip on over the 25ft hose?

Cheers Tony - I'll certainly do that if they start moaning about it. I was thinking of offering to pay them for the samples anyway and offer to send them future business too from carpet owners whose carpets are totally trashed.
