I printed out 100+ leaflets on my printer this morning as I wanted to test the lie of the land in a particular area.
What originally happened is that a regular customer of mine recommended me to her friend. Her friend wanted a 1 off on a property she rents out as a new contract was due to start. It was in an area where I was already working.
So I arranged it all by phone, did the clean and sent a bill to her address. A few days later the cheque came back and a "lovely job" note with a request to quote for her main home. No problem. It's a bit out of the way and a little outside my normal catchment area. So I decided to put a few leaflets out (not door knocking as it was a Sunday) while I was there. As it was Sunday, I was bumping into people which helped.
So, from less than an hours walking around (only dropped 40 leaflets at most), I got three definite starts and two that I rate as probable. All in the £20+ range. This is without any possible response from the leaflets yet. It sounds like an area with some reasonable size houses that has largely been overlooked as it's a bit out of the way.
Even if I end up with just those three definites then I reckon that's still a good return.
