so ive been out canvassing tonight. ive prices up three jobs and noticed i seem to be in an habit of quoting prices in increments of £5 

now i know alot of windys quote per window or like me just think how long it will roughly take to do the job after the first clean and price accordingly, but i cant help thinking that maybe i should quote £9 or £11 for jobs to sound more proffesional? if this makes sense? i just feel that when i start to increase my prices a £5 increase on a £10 job seems too much of a jump!

what do others think?

I tent to price in even amounts £10 £12 etc ... works for me so if fivers work for ou than no worries so long as its a multiple of 5  .....

The reason I price this way is that when I started I felt it gave me a better feel for pricing accurately.

Also a lot of them will give a tip. 4 of my £14 pounders give me £15 every time

I think incrementing your pricing helps up your average rather than making a big jump.

I would agree with you Steve on this one i am the same with some of my customers at £9 and they give me £10 and the same with the £13.50 they give me £14 and some times £15.

thanks guys. i think i might start pricing in increments of £1's and see how i get on. or £2 as ian suggested.

one reason i thought pricing in £5 increments was a good idea was to avoid carrying loads of change for people paying in notes!

but i forgot to add the trouble with my £5 increment policy is that some jobs are priced too low and some are priced too high, and like a said, when i come to do a price increase £5 is too much for most of my £10 jobs

my smallest jobs are going up by a pound, the mid range staying the same or by two depending on how well they were initially priced and my largest ones by a fiver, I think thats fair

I find when quoting an ad hoc job they usually pan out at some obscure figure, £9, 11, 13, or even £10 or whatever, thats when i base it on the number of windows, etc. Problem i have is when i do a semi for say a tenner and they recommend me to their neighbour, relative etc, who has a 'similar' sized house and they tell them the price, sometimes its spot on and the same ,others they have a massive porch, or more side windows etc..so you end up like Richy says..the ten pound window cleaner !! Whether you like it or not !!

thanks for the responses. so as not to fall into my £5 increment trap, i might try pricing the next few jobs per window/door! now i know this question as been asked alot but what do most windys on here charge per window/door?

i recon £1 for ground floor windows & doors £1.50 for 1st floor and about £2 for 2nd floor?

I'll try this method then mentally compare to what i would price normally per hour.

never really thought about it to be honest, def havent got any door numbers 13 - i think!

one strange thing im getting over the last 3 years now: nearly every new customer (80%) - the house door number has a 2 in it! ie no. 2,102 .......

getting really weird! last new customers were no.2 no.12 no.22 no.32
