Seamus, use one of these:

Works far better ;)

Once you've got the name and position of who you're writing to, then send a letter.

Letters addressed to "The Manager" or something equally moronic will just get binned without being opened.

Don't make excuses for not phoning, there aren't any :)

Id go with jim on this one too.

They will prob get binned the letters you send.

Why not even go in with a nice post card size business card etc n introduce yourself.

Hi Folks,

Just started in the game but in my short time i've found a phone call . backed up with hand delivering your letter or business info and asking to speak to say (The lettings / maintainance manager) direct has had a good return rate for me.

Hope that help

using a name is so important with these letters,

our local paper has a business section every Wednesday.  It has article on lots of different companies and often does a few in depth looks at a local business. This section of the paper is a goldmine of names.

if yo set your self a target of sending a letter to every name mentioned in your business section you will get a result and more importantly you can base the letter around what you have read about them in the paper.

Eg;.....

Hi Mrs smith

I read in the Birmingham gazette you have just opened new premises in the high street, I would just like to wish you every success with your new venture, if we can every be assistant is keeping your new stores carpets looking in pristine condition please let us know.

I pass your store every day, i will drop a bottle of our stain remover in for you to deal with any accidents you may have, until you might need my services.......... bla..bla..bla

this sort of letter will get more results than any generic introduction letter

Introduction letters DO work.

It was some years a go when I was scraping about for work that I knocked up a letter introducing a service to letting agents.

In that letter was a picture of an agent showing a prospective tennant around a nice clean home.

The heading of the letter stated, FIRST IMPRESSIONS LAST.

I simply listed with bullet points, reasons why they should choose me.

Needless to say, that letter among other forms of cheap well thought out advertising have given me little need to spend thousands on Thompsons and the like.

You can have that tip for nothing ;)
