Advertising Cons ! New
« on: March 29, 2011, 10:19:58 pm »
Im really enjoying this forum - because of all the helpfull and usefull advice.

I was wondering if any of you have ever been contacted by a firm working with the police or fire brigade etc..

It was someything that caught me out several years ago - but I had to learn !

Chatting to other trades last week, 1 a plasterer and the other a locksmith (both young lads) - these have both got issues with this type of outfit.

They are a nasty con ! always had a liverpool  accent, no proper address, withheld numbers and will convince you into an advertising con.

then they send you proofs,  invoices and threats of debt collectors.

Be Warned !

Has anyone else been approached by them??

Craig

Somehow over the years my phone has seemed to develop a reception problem when these people ring me  ;)
If there isn't enough time to do the job right,  how do we find the time to go back and do it again when the customer is not happy ?   Do it right the 1st Time.

The thing is that new business's are looking for advertising - and they make it sound good/affordable.

So we must warn all

and they also make you feel like you're helping out whatever cause they're doing it for. luckily when they first rang they told me they were ready to take payment for my order i placed in january when i had only started in paril so immediately knew it was a con. dno't seem to get so many any more now i've stopped advertising on free online directories ;)

I got caught out with the books for schools con, about 4 years ago now.
Don't tend to advertise with people who cold call any more, also registered with tps so that has reduced a lot of the stupid calls I used to get.

I'm sorry if this makes me sound hard faced, but how can you put your hard earned money into something you have not researched and verified that it's legit.I get these calls all the time and i thought nobody was so naive to fall for there cons. It's no wonder why we have so many con-men/women in this country with so many gullible people out there. :o

i had a call from one doing the police mag or calender (he was a scouser) and after chatting for abot 10 minutes the only way i could politely end the call was to ask him to send me details of previous publications stating that he could'nt expect me to sign up to something on the phone from a cold caller, anyway his reply was " why are you wasting my f#*@ing time then" and he hung up on me. as a result of this if i get a cold call now as soon as i realise they want money or are trying to sell me something i just hang up on them mid sentence rude but effective.
