tired pump
« on: February 23, 2011, 03:39:56 pm »
I have a shurflo 100 psi pump 5+ years old now
do they wear out with time ?been having problems with the flow on mine which I put down to an air lock but have since eliminated that. I did recently change from mini to microbore (but having said that did use microbore in the past with same pump) I use a mk1 eco flow controller but to be anywhere near powerful enough its set on high all the time. If I disconnect from hose reel flow seems alot more consistent making me think it struggles with the microbore. Just wondering if the diahpragm can wear out on these pumps.
I've seen these,
http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=3&sqi=2&ved=0CEIQgwgwAg&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.vyair.com%2Fscripts%2FprodView.asp%3FidProduct%3D105&rct=j&q=water%20fed%20pole%20pumps&ei=6iVlTfiYKJCyhAfWvfmGBw&usg=AFQjCNF79vCPT_85dJze9pLQDAG-2butng&cad=rja
anyone use them, which ltr per min flow rate would be best for 60 m of microbore and for use with my flow controller ?
thanks
Simon

5 years? I think it's had a long and fruitful life. I think the kind thing would be the let it retire.  ;D

Hi
I would change the microbore back to minibore and buy a new Shurflo pump.
I have been using a Shurflo 100psi pump 5l with Varistream for 5 years with minibore and it's still going strong. Why change a winning formula?

I enquired about the Vyair pump myself as I fancied an experiment with something other than Shurflo but they're not in stock until early April despite what the webpage says.

I enquired about the Vyair pump myself as I fancied an experiment with something other than Shurflo but they're not in stock until early April despite what the webpage says.

I was looking for a spare replacement pump as both my Shurflos are over 5 years old. I looked at Vyair and sent an email asking for confirmation that the 5lpm pump only draws 3amps as advertised. Got an email back confirming when stock would be available, but no confirmation of amp draw was forth coming. To me it seemed as though it was 'overlooked'. (I asked the question twice on 2 different emails.) If it was 8amp like the 10 & 12lpm pumps are, then it would draw more current than the Shurflo.

Give them credit though, I got a speedy reply to my enquiry on a Sunday evening - the same night and in my books that's an excellent response.

But I would go with what I knew. which I will do.

My 5lpm Shurflo pulls 8 amps. It is a few years old but I don't think the design will have varied by that much.

I have been using the Vyair 5l for a year now and found it had a much fast flow than my shuflo 5l.
Although it has been playing up a bit lately as seems to keep running rather than reach pressure and switching off like it did before. May just be pressure switch though.

thanks but sorted it, recently I'd changed tanks and had to reposition the pump but it was too high, is lower now and is working fine

According to Williamson's it is less

"thanks but sorted it, recently I'd changed tanks and had to reposition the pump but it was too high, is lower now and is working fine"
Shurflo are self priming up the 12' head, so something else must have been causing the problem
