Do we really need all these chemicals?
« on: February 23, 2011, 11:18:06 am »
I was on a job yesterday cleaning a 3 piece suite. It was very dirty so needed some really methodical prep prespraying and scrubbing with natural hand brush. Half way through I realised that I had forgot to put in a new container of Prochem Fabric Restorer, so I though what the hell, and used Multi Pro. Well I was amazed... the multi Pro did a far better job at breaking down the heavy soiling and there was an obvious difference after extracting with hot (70 degrees) Fabric and Fibre rinse. I re did the first chair with multi pro that we did with fabric restorer to match.

So my question is why do we have all these chemicals? Surely we don't need all these different presprays and extraction detergents? So if we use a prespray, why dont we just have a prespray and a rinse? Do we really need all these different extraction detergents?

The suppliers would like you to be believe you need them all, but in reality you only need 2 or 3, if you bought the whole collection regularly you'd probably be bankrupt in a few weeks   :o

I normally use power burst on most thimgs as a prespray, what i cant use that on i use prochem prespray gold and Fibre & Fabric as a rinse,  thats basically it.

I have other chemicals on the van and home that i've collected but very rarely use them now,

I think most thats been cleaning for a time scale down what they buy as many are just so similar,

Steve

Yes, I'm down to M Power, Powerburst, Double Clean and F and F Rinse.
Have got Craftex Champion and their upholstery cleaner, Trafficlean, Multi
Pro, Pre Spray Gold which I don't rate at all and last of all Crystal Green.
Of these the only one I would use again is the Craftex Champion.

I think you're dead right Mick.  And Steve too - we all go through a period of trying new things out and ringing the changes, but in reality you don't need a huge range of pre-sprays.  I carry four pre-sprays, one rinse agent, a tub of oxidizer, plus about 6 different "problem solvers" in trigger sprayers.  I'm never short of options!

Since getting a TM I have realised that chemistry is much less important than a damn good rinse.

Your right mick.

Did a really dirty suite yesterday and was cream and used  nemesis and spray and plenty of dwell time and as you said some hard work with a small brush.

Came up great and was pleased.

There again just realised how much i love just cleaning carpets than suites ;D

Mark, why don't you reduce the weight you're carrying around by just carrying one litre or half litres of everything and just top up at the end of the day.
Think of the weight you'll save carrying which in turn will reduce fuel consumption.

fabric restorer is a chamical has has a brightening erffect on cotton print that cannot be matched, yes there are better soil breakers but it is a chemical that I aloways have on the van. I do carry alot of diffeent chemical and the majority of them are not used on a daily basis but when they are needed I would rather be able to do an uncompromised job than waffle to the customer that something cannot be done.
