How many of my WFP colleagues who clean fasicas and soffits...
« on: February 10, 2011, 06:40:17 pm »
.... do them off the ladder?

I have done these jobs both ways and find off the ladder generally gives a better finish.

Anyone else still do them off the ladder?

Only if there are trees/something in the way. I use wfp but I know what you mean about the finish however wfp is the safe and quicker route for me anyway. Did two houses today, one with ladders and one wfp, wfp much quicker.

WFP all the way for me.either way its harder work than maintenance window cleaning!im not risking my neck up the ladder when i can clean them from the ground!!thats my view anyway!

Why would you use ladders ???

Wfp was made for this type of work.Just make sure you price the work at a higher rate than window cleaning as it's harder work. The finish is fine as long as you rinse well.

wfp but when the underside of the fascia has that type of grill they can leach dirty water for ages. so in this case and nearly only this case, wfp then up a ladder to dry under side with cloths/scrim.
WE CLEAN BY FAITH, NOT BY SIGHT WITH WATER FED POLE WHEN WORKING AT HEIGHT.

pole is the SL2.

yes and no,  i made up a 25 ltr drum of pure water with tfr and pumped that through the brush covering the
area above the windows then washed down with water - worked really well

Looking at the photo's he has made a fair job of a grubby looking building but in my opinion using TFR is no the correct solution, most TFR's are causitc based and if cleaned in sunlight can dry quickly and the residue is very difficult to remove and in some cases creates permanent damage , which could be costly for you.
Using a ladder on this bulding is not the answer purely for H & S reasons and it would take far too long to do the job and would not be cost effective.

The way we do it, is to get your trolley and water fed pole using the overspray nozzle (if its a Ionic pole) and spray from top down over using a mixture of Swift & Sure and pure water once you got to the bottom the product mix has killed the algae spores (which would re grow if using tfr) then go back to top and just rinse of with pure water brusing the same way you do windows , you will end up with a shiny clean building and a well satisfied customer and if you get one like this house I am sure as we do, all the time, get new customers from people watching us clean and then sign them up for a 6 month or annual contract.
The Swift & Sure product was designed to be used with pure water for it beads off  quickly is great for intitial  and long frequency cleans it kills algae, mould and moss safely and is highly reccommended by cladding and window cleaners across the UK and Europe.
the House that Darren has cleaned and the state it was in using a wfp and a 50 to 1 dilution rate would cost you around 0.39 pence per litre ready to spray, so thats cost effective and you will retain your customers 100%.

Not having seen all of Darren's clean but based on a 3 storey inc gutters and using Swift & sure algae killer with a 12 month guarantee and using 2 men on the job and inc a min of 1 hours travel the satisfied customer would not have got any change out of £750 and that is an average price in the HARD UP NORTH EAST, the house in question  has seriously being neglected and in need of treatment no where should it be allowed to get in this state, but as an extra service to cleaning windows you can always offer to do re- cleans every six to 12 months for a nominal fair fee.
Hope this helps
