We have and its not been freezing on the glass. Just stayed away from foot paths, entrances etc. and put salt down where there are pathways. We are only working on commercials though. Today we had to call it off half way thorugh due to a blizzard but other than that we have been creeping round earning a bit

I found working down to -4 or -5 easy,... -6 and -7 there were some windows the water froze on & the jets froze on the first house (before the hot water got all the way down the hose to them),... below -7 I didn't try to be honest,... i reckon the water would be freezing on most windows at that temp so I gave up.

once you have rinsed the glass surely it will freeze and dry badly?

I worked all last week, yesterday and today with L5 ( -1 to -2) . the only time water froze on glass was on an unheated porch.

Like Nat said -7 is probably another matter.

if its double glazing surely the heat is not touching the outside pane?

True,.. but even double glazing lets out a lot of heat unless its that Low E stuff,.. the glass usually above freezing point even if the outside temp is below.

Has anyone ever cracked a pane with one of these gadgets?  The hotness I mean.  I would think modern double glazing would be safe, don't know about thinner older stuff.

I am not sure that many of my customers would be happy with frozen water on the glass for a few days

I've never cracked a pane of glass yet & this is my 3rd winter hot.

I have left very few windows iced over,.. all of them were in the shade & early in the morning. I'm confident they melted as soon as the sun hit them.

yeah thats the problem isnt it, north facing windows will never be in direct sunlight!

im starting to think that hot water systems are maybe the only way to go for w.f.p'er though! if this is the start of winters to come, its hot water fed pole or back to trad

Personaly I cant see a great advantage with a hot water system
waters going to freeze regardless
any one who has paid out for one
is bound to say how good they are
same as when wfp came out
but we all know they have there problems
