« on: December 22, 2010, 10:23:30 pm »
What do I need to get George to work outside of my pc?

What is the name or type of hand held gadget-thing I need to think about getting?  I don't know a lot about these things as you can tell! Are tehy 'palm'?  Where do I get one and can it be wireless and get the interest etc?

It's only half the program then though, and to add or change things you have to keep connecting it to your computer.

Or...you could do as I do and have the proper program on a laptop in the van. ;)

But it's like that with an iPod - you have to update it to a) update it and b) charge the battery.

Can a 'palm' do anything other than have george on it?

I use a cheap Palm Zire 31 that I've had for a few years now, Pocket George can go on it which like Squeaky said will run a cut down George program, you can pull up all customers details, last clean, next clean, job completed, skip, and update jobs done as you work, once at home just plug it into your PC and sync and it will update the main George program

I can see a time when we have at least five hand held gadgets like these!

Have you considered a netbook ?
is what I use now for george and the net and take to work with me, has freed up a lot of time for me, my office is always with me hardly use the home pc anymore.
The Asus Eee PC is a good range to look at. ;)

yes I do back up regularly, concern of theft is understandable.
I do leave mine in van whilst working, but its so compact that its easily hidden away, nobody would know it was in there. When I'm away from the van for longer periods like a lunchtime or off to the bank I take it with me in a courier bag.
Just be careful, for me the positives far outway the negatives.
On tuesday while out working, I got a call for a last min before xmas one off clean.
I asked for her postcode and said I could only fit in if it fitted with other jobs in the run up to xmas I had booked. Quick look on google maps and checked my work list on george and rang her back 5 mins later. Did job this afternoon and its become a regular  :D

there's a new ap for the iphone/pod which runs palm os apps. So george could be used on your iphone. If you have one, which I don't.

Style tap. Obviously an ipod touch is an iphone without the phone so is much cheaper to buy and will run it too.
