electric trace heating

just been talking to my brother he suggested using electric trace heating tape they use it in power station he works at just wondered if any one has used it on water tanks and pipework in van

I believe there is a guy who cleans in Newcastle Upon Tyne who uses this. He apparently has it linked to his leisure battery via an invertor as it takes so little current. He travels a fair mileage to his round so the lesiure battery is always fully charged via a split charge relay.
I would probably imagine though that in this weather he may have to supplement with bench charging.
