lowest setting on both works for me, gives warm/hot water at a high enough temp to work, no need to change settings at all.

have only used mine today , but friends who have L5 say that gas on half way, and water numpty, on min and you need a flow of 1.8 -2.0 ltr a min or the gas will go out

Water and gas both on min and control flow with the varistream (slower the flow, hotter the water)
You can't polish a turd

if the flow is to slow then the heater may turn off and your working away and dont realise that you aint got hot water, by which point you stop and have a chat with customer, and then you have a very cold even a tiny bit frozen hose real!
