Lee isnt illustrating a potential danger or risk not helping someone then?

Do you have public liability insurance?

yes thank you, do you have a girl thingy?

what are the potential risks? whats the difference of putting a 3kw heater in your tank, or putting a 3kw heater in the van to stop filter pumps ect freezing?

if anyone suggested putting a 3kw oil filled radiator in their van nobody would be questioning it.

My point wasnt, if you'd read my earlier posts correctly, not about the fitting of an immersion element, it was that Gazza was offering to do electrical work for remuneration and most likely wasnt insured to do it.

Have you got one of these elements plugged into a household socket on your ring-main?

I did put a 3Kw heater in my van tank last year Lee, you should do a search and find out what went wrong before you try gobbing off to people with your little tantrums.

Not so much a 'girl-thingy' more a woman thingy thanks, theyre far more fun.

You stick the girls mate.

I came on here earlier in the week first time for a while.I wa in a state the same as most of us cos I couldnt work as my water, pipes, pumps etc were frozen >:(
I stumbled upon the post by Steve about the immersion heater and my week was MADE. ;D
I now have a tank fitted with immersion heater and can work when previously couldnt :)
Its each and every mans own personal choice whether or not they take up Steves idea,he hasnt forced it on anyone.
Please give the man credit for sharing such a great idea with us all instead of jumping on the H&S wagon.
As I said if you dont like the idea you dont have to use it.
But for the record iv used it and am eternally gratefull.
Thanks Ste.

i fitted one yesterday, 11" in 640ibc. think i should have got the 27" but they advise to fit horizontal only on 14" or less. anything bigger should be fitted vertically according to element manufacturer.
only coplaint i had is this morning the water below the element was cool, above was lovely and warm. it needs something to make the waer circulate, cos otherwise when you drive off the cool water then mixes with the hot and brings the overall temp down.

anyone else come across this?

so if you can get the element as low as you can.

the water wont circulater as hot water rises,  if u have an immersion at home  look where ur element is in the tank

u can wire one of these up to a plug with a cut out on, as long as wire is big enough,  if you are worried to local spark shop and ask them what is best to get,

take  the outlet on your pump and stick it through the lid of tank this will move the water wile its heating up . ;) or you could drill a small hole at the top of tank and fit a tap to hozelock the pump outlet onto.

you could fit the radiator out let pipe or the heater water pipe off the van engine  to run  through the tank , this will give a inline heating system for the tank to keep the temp up , these pipes get very hot i think i would work.
you will have to drill 2 more holes at the base of the tank.

Tried that, 2 problems.

1. Your engine gets very cold very quickly. i.e no heaters.

2. If you put it directly through the head of your engine / radiator the water will be minging / full of antifreeze.

We ran a copper coil from the radiator into the tank. See problem 1.

So i dont know what i am doing... yet in your post (which has just been deleted, )you say its easy... hole drilled fit flange blah blah....

and anyone can do it,,,

if i dont know what i am doing how come i have now got a lagged tank with an element in, and i have had hot water this morning and warm water this afternoon,

No desrespect to steve,... meant at all,

yes i did ask more questions than anyone else on steves topic,

Thats how you learn mate,

Some guys will never fit anything of their own ever, ... so the offer of help  was there ......Amd as much as i like doing favours for people,... and i do lots and lots,

people on this forum are widespread , so i cant possibly drive up and down the country  fitting one here and there for nothing, so in effect its still a favour because very little profit involved,

But i aint about to start an argument on here with the guys who slag every little thing off  , either out of boredom,  jealousy or for any other reasons which grips them.

So the offer of help from me is withdrawn,... and if you would like  one fitting , my mate dean , who is also a cleaner, will be happy to help, although  his prices may be different i dont know.

he is dr clean... on this forum so anyone wanting will have to start a new thread with his name on.

Cheers to everyone who was interested , but get one fitted lads... its a cheap way of combatting this awful weather
genuine concern for you gazza thats where i was coming from mate...great idea from steve one which i have took up myself, but fitting for others is a very dangerous game.......my sparky mate who fitted mine said there is a hell of a lot of power and heat going through these elements and used incorrectly or to much can cause fire!!! thats all i was trying to say and probably should have worded it a little better....

In that case Gazza I guess the points I raised were thoroughly relevant.

And to those who try to put me down because I voiced a very real concern that the opening poster now acknowledges, I accept your apologies; although you haven't got the courage to say so.

I did notice one dunder-head in pictures he posted of his all new gleaming, brand spanking, all dancing hot water immersion set-up that he was using lighting cable to wire in a 3KW immersion heater. I suggest when that thing has been running 20 minutes you check the cable. Enjoy the barbecue.

Plenty of courage,  and i have not wired mine up with lighting cable, nor would i have done anyone elses, with lighting  cable,

i did not apologise, because who have i got to say sorry to? and what for??????

there are concerns about everything on here, electric appliances being one of them,

carrying a cannister of gas is another , which rarely gets a mention,

people are using the elements... i use mine for extreme frost, so i can work, like Steve.

i have changed this post because the wording was mis-understood and  looked like i was a qualified electrician ,.... to some people ......The risks are there for anyone, and were there more so for me, should i have fitted elements for others, i accept that,

when all is said and done, it an element ..... im not exactly wiring a full house.

But some people jump on the H&S Bandwagon and take things a little far,....

Your post above proves your concerns were for arguements sake alone, and not my well being,

Accepting an apology which i didnt give ??????? then saying i have not the courage to say so....

Baffling.

Anyway to all who commented , thank you . i know the risks, i understand i would be in trouble if anything happened ,

thats the reason i wont fit anyone elses.

i knew that already, but once people started slapping that on here , it was time to withdraw the offer.

No apology required for trying to help people,..
