Bait and Switch
« on: November 10, 2010, 08:21:31 pm »
I have just had a call (8.00PM) from a company (I could name names - do we do that?) on my business line offering to clean my lounge carpet for £8.99.

I took the opportunity to ask what machine would be used (they didn't know), what solutions (they didn't know) and the usual sort of questions a pro cleaner would be interested in.  I asked them how they could operate such low prices and I think they worked out they were barking up the wrong tree.

Of all the times of year to be resorting to telesales, November seems odd to me.  I am choc-a-block at the moment and I am turning down work.

Would it be unethical to put an add in local papers with....
Get your carpet cleaned by a professional
But don't use a company currently cold calling your area with prices at £8.99 because they will charge you much more than you expect.

Ring me and I'll string them along until they turn up and then just turn them away.

I was tempted to do that Neil but I would be cutting off my nose to spite my face.

but I would be cutting off my nose to spite my face.

That'll be me too.
I saw one of their vans returning to the hive the other day on the Basingstoke - Alton road. To say 'If I'd noticed it earlier I would have swerved to cause them off the road' would be an under statement.

I can't believe these crooks are still using the same bait and switch tactics less than a week after they were told face to face that it is ILLEGAL!

I really hope they get prosecuted for this.

the fact that they actually do an £8.99 clean means its not illegal. don't believe everything you hear on watchdog, they basically do what all the people on the show do, make it sound more interesting than it actually is. its called ratings.

it is immoral though, all though no more immoral than upselling protector on a poly.

When is he going to go after Fred The Shred and all the other criminals in the city?

Why didn't the students go after him today and push his windows in?

d - the bait and switch tactics they use are now outlawed and have been since 2008 - according to the watchdog programme  ;)
