Escort van
« on: May 30, 2005, 08:30:09 pm »
planning on going down the WFP road and been offered an escort van at the right money. What is the maximum size tank you could safely carry in an escort van? I plan to do tops only. Dai

I have looked into this already as I have an Escort van too.  I doubt it would be big enough for me but you may find different.  I think that most Escorts carry a maximum of 550 kg  (Escort 55).  I believe that a litre of water weighs 1kg.  I don't know what a tank would weigh but my hunch is that if you used a 400 litre tank, you may need to stop short of filling it up.  I think  that you have to factor in your body weight and any other tools that you are carrying (including on the roof) as well.  There are Escort 75s as well which may mean that they can carry more weight.
PLEASE NOTE.  I have not verified all of the above yet, so don't take my post as being factually correct.

Mate, 250 litres tops to be safe really what with all the rest of the kit + yourself etc. A friend of mine has this setup and it's just right.

I agree 250 lts max

This should clean 20 houses ( the tops only) on first clean and about 40-50 houses when you have the windows and frames up to scratch.

Thanks William and Chineapple.  My hunch is right then I think.  Before going to WFP, I would want a larger van.  I've no plans to go WFP for at least a year - possibly two as I would wish to minimise the debt required to start it up.  Apart from the weight, I feel the the pole length could be an issue with the Escort.

Thanks for that guys. I'm planning to carry about 250kgs in containers and use DI only for the time being. Our local tap water has a reading of 42. I can top up from customers taps when I run short. I'm planning on carrying 2 DI cylinders. When the reading on the first on gets high I'll use it as you would an RO unit and put a fresh one on the trolley. This way I'll get maximum use of the resin. Not a problem i have a 36ft powerpole fits inside the van but does hang over the front.
I now keep it on the roof in a pole holder i made from waste pipe.

If I were to go down this route with an Escort, I would need to keep it outside too.  I have a mesh bulkhead separating the cab from the load area and  would prefer to leave it in place.

I was gonna get an escort but my astra came up cheap as chips and believe it or not this has to be the daddy of small vans , it can legally carry a whopping 850 KG !
At the mo i only carry a 175L tank and 6  25L barrels , its enough for what i do , but i have found it a little too cramped lately , im going for a fiat scudo soon , that way i can get my poles inside too

I'm so lazy I'm getting tired of it !
