I did a poll a month or so ago and most liked 6mm, so that's what I went for and havnt been disappointed, I was starting up like you, but the advise I got was it's lighter than 8mm, some say they have a problem with pressure but mine has been fine.

6mm might be a tad lighter but it requires more work from the pump thus more power from the battery.

There's 2mm in it! you'll still get 100m of 8mm on a standard hose reel.

8mm for me coupled with a digital varistream. Only requires the pump to run at No-1 flow setting & will run direct from van battery all day! ;)

Not sure what no1 settings is. On my trolley i have been getting good results from a reading of about 40 from a 1/2 hose so i wondering if i went down to 6 mm or 8mm  over 100m i would be running max  so the batttery would be running out fast i was going to buy 50 m as i can move trolley to prolong battery the 6mm or 8 mm both seem to have there add/disadvantages

I went from 8mm to 6mm, it did save a lot of weight, didnt notice any problems on van battery or pump been 2 years now. i think there cheaper too, flow rate is fine too.

To give you an idea of what setting "1" is on a varistream- I can count the pump revolutions, that's how slow the pump needs to run to give me my preferred flow rate, which I use for 99% of the time.

If I turn my pump up to full, the varistream indicates a flashing green light, which is a warning for low power!

This is the difference in power consumption I'm advising you to consider. Using electronic flow controll with 8mm hose requires only a fraction of the power of other set ups & you'll have NO flow/pressure issues either. ;)

Although mine is a van mount, I use a "cleantech" ready made pump box/varistream. All contained in one box, plug in & away you go.

THAT WAS GETTING CONFUSSING SO I WENT TO THE WEBSITE WHERE I GOT MINE 100 DIFFERENT PRESSURE WATERFLOW SETTINGS WITHIN AN INTELLGENT PUMP CONTROLLER HYDROFLO 26AH DEEP CYCLE BATTERY LAST A WEEK WITHOUT CHARGING  NOT REALLY SURE HOW LONG THE BATTERY LASTS AS I CHARGE IT UP EVERY 2 DAYS BUT IT WORKS ALL THE TIME GREAT A VERY GOOD TROLLEY IF YOU WANT TO GET ONE EVER

There may only be 2mm in it but the important measure is area, not width.

6mm hose cross section is 36mm sq, 8mm hose is 64mm sq.

100m of 6mm hose will hold 3.6 litres of water.  For 8mm hose, it's 6.4 litres, so it'll weigh nearly 3kg more in addition to the extra weight of the hose.

One important point, though, even on the biggest places I do, armed with a van mount system, so moderately inflexible, I NEVER use 100m of hose.  I very rarely go over 50m.  I'm thinking of cutting down to 60m and having 40m extension on a cheap hoselock reel for the one clean in a week that needs it.  My work is pretty much all domestic, which might explain it.
