I don't think it makes a difference to your results; your hands just get cold writing everything down. Don't go when it's tipping down though as you'll look quite silly; a drowned rat asking for window cleaning customers ;D

The only thing i can think of is the days are short and some people dont like opening doors at night it will soon get dark at 4pm and its best to start after 5 when they come back from work

What i was going to do is knock all day saturday and last door knock at about 4
its just people think you might be up to something dodgy knocking at night ;/

Would you ever have included a few complimentary's, just to get the ball rolling on a new route. Or is that just a definite no-no wud ya think? I'm breaking into an area with a bad rep now and I'm gonna stick with it. Everyone seems to be smashed in the posher areas, the older well settled places can be a gold mine if done right.

Why don't you do a special promotion?
Use vista-print (or someone else) who do the "Free" special offer for the valued customer (every week)

I got the large Post Cards (I think it was 250 for the price of 50...about £5 delivered)
I placed one in every customers bill.
The offer was £5 off next clean(or 25% of new clean price, which ever was larger.. for each and everyone!)...
When they recommend a friend/family member/neighbour etc! (condition was "Regular" customer! at least 3 months)

One customer went out looking for people she knew, so it worked for me! ;)

A good point. I've got a few mansions but I got them through recommendations or from other custies. From my experience people in large houses are very wary of door knockers etc. For obvious reasons.

Hi, just wondering, albeit a minor point, but when people are out canvassing - do they go out (of their van at least) with a clipboard or is it better to go empty handed and then get the clipboard to write down the customers details if you were to be succesful??
Small question I know, but your help is great, Thanx!
