compact machine
« on: October 26, 2010, 06:23:05 pm »
Hola hopefully someone can help me. what im looking for is advice on a compact carpet cleaning machine. price is not an issue. What is an issue though is the size i need to be able to fit it in the back of a hatchback. does such a thing exist? I suppose a smaller machine would also have the advantage of not putting my back out, and would be usefull for getting up stairs etc.. I have seen the Sabrina-Maxi which looks like it might do also the alltecs seem compact. what do the experts think.

cheers

even if you can find a machine small enough to fit in a hatchback will there be enough room for your hoses and wands vacuum and agitation machines sprayers , chemicals etc etc the list goes on, if cost is'nt an issue maybe you should consider buying a small van.

The Sabrina splits making it easy to load in a hatchback ..............you don't need a machine to aggitate....they've only become popular over the past few years..........25 feet of hose takes up very little space and a wand will easily fit in your hatch.
This is more than adequate for what you describe but standby as you'll probably be swamped with..........you really need a T/M and Transit or similar................as an add on to your other services you will manage fine with a small portable. Not ideal for commercial work though

I used to work from the back of a Fiat Marea Estate - flat floor so easy to get stuff in.
No problem.
Brush to agitate as Robert has said.
I used a large portable - a CFR500, if I had a hatchback I would have struggled because the floor of the load area is usually lower then the lip on the boot.
With the Sabrina this splits I think so should make that job easier.

Well yes it is I provide services letting agents in my area and am involved in  a lot of end of tenancy work you can probably tell what I do by my user name.

im not looking to step on anyone’s toes, as I know how annoying it when the local window cleaner blocks up a wasps nest entrance with expandable foam. Making it almost impossible for me to sort it without getting stung.

I would be just doing the odd small job now and again and passing larger jobs on to the local pro. This is something I do regularly for people who specialise in house clearances, trauma cleans, building work, roof repairs bird netting etc...

And in return I get passed work back in areas I specialise in such as bed bugs. I had a job last week from a carpet cleaner who had been asked to remove fleas from a house I got the job and slipped him £20.

We are all in the same boat and want to make a decent living. I know what im good at, I have been in the pest industry for years and don't intend on packing it in any time soon. I would rather work WITH local businesses than against them if I can provide anyone with any advice then please let me know.

PS someone has offered me a numatic machine are they taking the pee on would it be ok for what I need?

cheers

No, good for the odd spot removal only tho.

To be honest, you'll probably get everything you need in to a hatchback (ie. a small porty, wand, hose, some chems put in to smaller containers and a brush) but you will soon get fed up of taking things in and out and driving about with all that gear packed tighly in to a car!

Wouldn't a small van not be good for your main business anyways? better customer image, more space, free advertising (signage) etc etc something like a transit connect or combo etc

we used our trusted little hatchback when we 1st started, all was fine and dandy until his nibs loaded the machine in after a job one morning, chatting away to the client, not paying attention, closed the hatch and SMASH...... the handle was facing the wrong way and put the window through.
needless to say , we bought a van that day  ::)

Depends on what Numatic machine.
There are some with twin vac motors and a pump around 50psi.
I have cleaned many carpets with one of those, and upholstery, but use now only as my spotting machine. It sis 18 years old now and had 2 pumps in its lifetime.
You can still buy for about £650+vat retail.
There are cheaper Numatic c/cleaning machines, about £250 - not worth thhe hassle.
