Dry ice is fired at the object to be cleaned by a flow of compressed air, when the dry ice hits the surface it changes state into a gas which releases energy. Its this change of state and hence release of energy that breaks down the soiling. Its expensive, has to be delivered and the job sheduled together, its also noisey. It works on the same principle as soda blasting
