Rotovac.....any good?
« on: August 30, 2010, 12:26:43 pm »
I've always been strictly Scrubba Deluxe and a wand for all my work but just wondered about the Rotovac. Is it worth getting? Can it be used as say in place of the Scrubba deluxe? Are there any drawbacks with it? How long will the cleaning heads last? Can extra drying passes be done easily with the heads still rotating ? Does it leave carpets drier than the Scrubba or wand? Are there other similar machines that are better or cheaper?

Thanks
Chris

Having had the machine on demo for a week I can answer some of your questions but as I have never worked a Scrubba Delux there will be answers I cannot give.

The RV360i does a really good clean, because it is rotating with 3 jets and 3 suction slots per revolution - much more then you can wand.
The speed of rotation can be controlled to suit differing pile types ie low profile commercial all the way through to domestic and their varying lengths.
I found the machine cleaned very well, and left the carpet drier then my wanding - which I was well satisfied with anyway.
Dry passes are easy - you just take your hand of the spray controller handle and do dry passes - as easy as.

I have no idea how ling a head will last - I presume a long time if you dont abuse (like anything really).
There is a felt seal which is important to keep clean - easy to get at to maintain and should only cost a few quid to replace, but you get a spare with the machine.
Reasonably light at 39lbs but with enough weight to do its job.

The Hydramaster RX20 gets good reviews but is about £1k dearer, and is VERY heavy. So much so many c/cleaners dont use it regularly unless on big commercial.
RV360i will be suitable for larger domestics due to its comactness, ease of use and lightness.

There are other heads that can be changed to very quickly so hard floors can be cleaned, or stairs, or a carpet brush with suction for really bad carpets.

Make sure you get a 360i because the 360 had some electrical problems that are solved on the 360i.

Cheapest supplier was Solutions Cornwall and very good after sales support as well. Other suppliers I found were Altec and Ashbys.

I took it for a weeks demo, it did a really good job as I have already posted, but I decided it was not a machine for my business at that point in time.
Couldnt really fault the machine, its just when you spending £1800 you have to be certain its a tool that will enahance your business.
Whilst it would be good for domestics, its probably going to earn its worth on commercial/pubs,restaurants, and considering things overall those are areas that do not interest me at my time of life (late nights/early mornings etc - been there and had enough).

Ian - I did say in my previous post.......

"Whilst it would be good for domestics...."

so yes it will do rooms at any size and traffic lanes anywhere too.

It was a good machine...... I took it on demo for a week, found nothing wrong with it, but decided I it was'nt for me - maybe suit someone else absolutely fandabedozee

When I used one I thought it was great but what I didn't like and it's the same with all powerheads......the bloody vac hoses and electric leads !

Yes I know that you have vac hoses attached to a wand but a wand is light weight and slimmer, I much prefer to use a seperate aggitator then a wand.

The cleaning with the 360i is very good and tbh you only need 130psi porty a TM is over kill.

Still doesn't clean into corners though!

Do you bother to pre spray and agitate  with your truck-mount?

What produces better results sebo duo  or host and a wand or the 360

Ian I use as much pre cleaning before I hwe, I'd have though as host machine would get into the pile better than most machines, the 360 did give a nice even clean but I don't think that it opened the pile up as much, only way you could give a decent comparison is if you were to have it 3 months or so. Personally I prefer a seperate agitator.
