Had First Problem With WFP Today
« on: September 08, 2010, 05:04:32 pm »
Had this customer about 3 years, £15 every 4 weeks takes about 20 mins trad, went over to wfp for last couple of cleans, did them last week and got a call from owner saying i havent cleaned them as they are all marked, i explained that i have gone over to wfp and maybe i had a dirty container of water so went to do them again today, the problem is the frames, the gloss paint has gone so powdery that it keeps running onto glass so i thought sod it and got the ladders out and did them trad again, im going to tell the custy to rub his finger down any of his frames and he will see what the problem is!! i dont want to loose them as i do nearly every other house at this end of the road.
one problem out of my whole round aint bad and i must admit i enjoyed getting the ladders out again!
Im not scared of heights, just falling from them.

Wooden frame windows are the norm here in Holland...this is how I approach this when it occurs...give to top frames a real good scrubbing, scrub some moreflush loads...flush some more (see a pattern emerging?), then go around finish the whole house, then go back to start and clean as normal but do not clean the top frames. THIS 2X CLEAN APPROACH IS 1ST CLEANS ONLY.

In about a year or as you see fit....stick a cloth over the brush head and give the top frames a clean using a damp microfibre I find is best. I had the g/f sew some velcro on them so they did'nt keep falling off.

Have been doing this since I started...it works.

Cheers
Dave.

Do you find that wfp tends to accelerate wear on wooden frames, especially sills?

No not at all...but my mate said....

Absolutely it's toxic...it melts upvc...my mate said that a friend of his had all his windows fall out of the walls just 5 minutes after a window cleaner cleaned them for the 1st time with 020ppm water....

Cheers Dave ;D

These windows are in 2 sections (wooden bar across middle) so they will run onto bottom panes anyway and there is 2 large sets of georgian style french doors round the back, ive been doing them trad for about 3 years without any problems and i timed myself today and it took 5 minutes longer than wfp so i'll just keep this one trad and if any neighbours ask why im doing them with a ladder  i'll blame the dodgy paint!
