Can't reach bedooms.
« on: August 27, 2010, 03:05:15 pm »
I've been using a ALTEC p/plus since i bought it on Ebay about 10 months ago.The other week the solution hose burst so i bought a new one off Ebay, all i could see on the web where 25ft and 50ft lengths,so i got the 25ft hose as i thought it would be same as my origanal one.
Having received my hose i now realise that my old hose was about 30ft which was just about long enough to reach on all bedrooms on all previous jobs.I know that 25ft is not going to be long enough to reach some bedrooms. So what do i do?....do i buy another 25ft(my pump is only 100psi) could i run 50ft with only 100psi?....can i buy shorter lengths or a 30ft solution hose some where. The other option is to cart the machine upstairs which would be a nightmare or ask a customer to help lift it upstairs which is just un-professional.Any ideas.Cheers.

Buy another 25ft, the pump will be fine with 50ft its the vaccum that will not be as good.

If you do buy an additional hose then buy your connector from here.

I bought one when one of our connectors was lost. Saves you over a tenner on Alltec's price for what is essentially the same item.

They sell hose etc. too but as I haven't purchased hose I can't comment on quality.

Joe mentioned this on another thread. You could get the 25' then split it into 10' & 15' lengths and get some extra cuffs, will give you a few more options. Solution hose can stay the same

Or cut back the old one to remove the weak/damaged part, get a new connector fitted and use it as an extension on the odd occasion that you cannot reach with your new hose.
If there isn't enough time to do the job right,  how do we find the time to go back and do it again when the customer is not happy ?   Do it right the 1st Time.

and the risk of damaging wallpaper, or even worse dropping the thing coming back down, or even tweaking your back so you cant work for a week.
Has that saved any money??

I would NEVER recommend taking the machine upstairs in a domestic house, you're just asking for problems.

When using our portable we always carry 25ft and a 50ft vacuum and solution hoses on the van, 75ft will reach all areas of most properties, even 3/4 storey town houses.

They aren't that expensive and will last you a good while and will never come out of use

I've never scratched wall paper or anything for that matter in a customers house from bring equipment in to the house. Well atleast not in 10 years! Its quite easy actually.
Alot of my jobs are in tenaments, on the 2nd and 3rd floors. And sometimes parking outside is impossible directly outside the job site so a truckmount would be totaly out of the question never mind a porty left in the stair well! lol  So your forced to bring it up stairs. Like everything, With the right technique you wont hurt your back or drop it down the stairs.

What happens when you need to turn off the machine to move forniutre OR treat a stain OR change from wand to hand tool? Do you run up and down the stairs all the time? Your going to say get one of those shut of things on the solution line aren't ya :) or one of those gadgets that turn off the eletrics via a remote control device. I'm not sure about  a truckmount but every manufacture and suppliar I know of says that you need to turn down the pressure of the pump before turning it off. i.e. it wont be such a big jolt when it stops at 400psi for example. Or leaving the pump running while not using it can cos damage. (In the case of a shut off valve) This is the case with porty's anyways so i've been told.

p.s. the comment on the cost of hose was just tonuge in cheek...  ::)

some portys, usually better ones, have a return valve in the system so when you stop wanding the water in the system returns to the clean tank.
thus you can use the remote controlled switch devices - very effective.
and it is easy to tweak your back without knowing it - if if you doing things correctly. I lifted my machine upstairs a couple of years ago and with someone to help. Its was only in the afternoon my back started to seize.
