to be fair to srubadub you can only know this answer if you've been taught it, it's not like it's an obvious answer, so if whoever trained him never mentioned it you can't blame him for not knowing.

what a stupid question!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A bit harsh.
I asked the same question when I did my very first wool rug and got a sensible answer on here. Some people at the time may have thought the same as Simbo but they didn't post it.

and when you cleaning wool carpet/rug, its best to let the client know before you start what they might expect ie the wet dog smell which will go within say 24 hours.
Many clients dont relate wet wool carpets to a doggy smell.

i should invest in a basic training course before you pre-spray anymore carpets, they cover basic things such as this.

I tell the custy's it's "Wet Sheep Smell!"

They say, "How do you know what a wet sheep smells like?"

I reply "Erm.... Richard Basey Fisher told me....!"  ;D ;D ;D

why does it smell only after pre-spraying? and not after you cleaned the carpet?

you can turn the wet sheep smell into a big advantage and show the customer that you will not sacrifice a quality service for the short term gratification of a pleasant smell.

I tell the customer some carpet cleaner will spray a  perfume all over the carpet after they have finished their work to give the illusion that the carpet is fresh & clean but all they have done is cover the carpet in a nice smelling chemical.

a carpet that has been cleaned by a true professional will have no smell apart from a hint of damp wool, (which dissipates as the carpet dries)

most intelligent customers can see the logic in this
